MJBaldie 4 #1 Posted May 5, 2020 Hi all, I have just joined and I am in England. I have a 1969 Commando 8 built in Belgium that has been running for many years now but it is fitted with a pull start. I know it should be an electric start and have tried to get a starter/generator for it. At some time a different engine has been fitted ( i think a 1971 K181T Spec 30660d serial 9786603 ) As the freight/duty is so much from the USA I can get a s/g from ireland for a Cub Cadet but it is CCR because they were driven from the pto side. My question is, does anybody know what size pulley I would need on the pto drive and also what size pulley for the s/g. Any info on where parts are available would also be a great help. I’ll have to measure the PTO basket pulley when I get home tonight. It should spin and the drive gear should slam out away from the starter. On a starter/ gen - clamp negative to the body, touch positive to the "A" terminal. If it's a Bendix starter hook jumper cables from to a battery. Then negative to the body of the starter, touch the positive cable to the single wire stud on the starter. If it spins but the drive gear does not slam out, you'll need to free it up on the spiral shaft. DO NOT use any liquid lube. graphite powder is my choice to lube the shaft. Tried the starter out and it's dead, didn't turn over our even hint at being interested. Pretty sure it's been left outside in a bucket of water looking at the strains on it.
