You've found a an amazing resource for all things Wheelhorse.

There are a few GT14 gurus around that'll chime in soon.

Your father took very good care of your GT-14, glad to see it staying in the family. Most of us don't have the good fortune of having a long history with our :wh:.             :text-bravo:    The only three point powered attachment I am aware of for the GT-14 is a rototiller that is belt driven from a special double pulley on the hydro pump.

The model number on your GT-14 is a 1971 number so you are correct.

This switch information should be helpful.

Welcome to red square, I wish mine started out in the shape yours is in, as far as the switches go the light switch can still be found as they were used on different models the pto switch on the hand can be difficult to find and expensive, I took mine apart and cleaned the contacts and it seems to be working just fine, I also added a relay to the pto switch so the switch was not taking the load of the pto and arcing across the contacts in the switch. Good luck and have fun with it

Welcome to the forum Bianca! I’m so glad you found us and decided to join.  That is one BEAUTIFUL GT-14.  I’m so glad that it was passed on to someone who appreciates it for what it is and recognizes the sentimentality of those old memories.  If you have any old pictures of you or other family members using or around the tractor, please post them.  We love those old photos.

So...what are your plans with the tractor?  Are you planning to use it as a worker, getting running as a play machine, hang on to it as a fully functional show tractor, or...

Looks like wiring is your biggest challenge right now.  I can’t wait to see that thing running again.

rocker switch

if you can check the measurements on that rocker switch I might be able to give you a part number. Cole hersee makes a few.

I keep a couple in stock for our 60s vintage tractors and I know they used them in the early 70s on other models as well.

Hello all!

I too recently acquired a 1969 GT-14 that has been gifted to me by my retiring father. We mechanically restored it in the late eighties as I was finishing high school.  At that time it frequently mowed an acre of our four acres a week.  When I went to college my father restored an old Ferguson tractor and mowed all with that and the wheel horse was a backup and garden tiller.  Each season the gas was treated or run dry and the oil was changed.  2019 and it still pops right off (as right off as the old cast iron 14hp kohler do) but you know what I mean.  I am new to forums and seeking some wisdom as well.  My machine is mostly complete and running.  It has a tiller and I have successfully restored the mower deck.  My main problem is the steering wheel and it is missing the directional pulleys under the tractor that would complete the mowing setup.  I cannot find that part or any diagram so I could fabricate something.  I am fairly certain that the original setup was gone when my father acquired it and he subsequently fabricated pulleys to make it work.

Sorry for the long post, any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.  I have my old buddy back.  I will post pictures as soon as I figure that out.  Not a great interweb person.  Better with old machines.

Thanks

Ken

:text-welcomewave: @Treepep Ken!  @953 nut and soon @19richie66 are/will be in NC and are quite familiar with the big :wh: tractors.

to add a picture, just below where I am typing is a paper clip and a link “click to choose files”. Click that line and it’ll allow you to browse where you store pictures to add them here.  I’m looking forward to seeing your newly acquired once restored machine!  :wwp:

Thank you for the information.  As a hobby I have restored many old pieces of lawn equipment.  Mostly tillers and mostly David Bradley.  I am very much a wheel horse rookie.  When we acquired it they were rare but around.  I want to keep it from scrap however it seems like a black hole very much like finding David Bradley parts.  It will run and till the rest of my life if I am still around.  I would like it to mow on occasion as well.  I know the deck we have is from the next generation 73-76.  I also know that somehow my father made it work.  The tractor now no longer has the puley(s)? on the passenger side.  I believe I could make something but I have not found a place to start.  I.E. no good pictures of what the original belt/pulley configuration.  Runs and drives.

Thank you

@Treepep

I may have the piece you are looking for but it is in NC in a storage shed. I’m going up next weekend so I can check.

19richie66,

Thanks for the response.  If I just putt around the farm with it I will be happy.  If I can procure the part from you or somewhere and get it back to some seasonal at my discretion work then great as well.

Many thanks

Ken

A good alternative to the OEM method of driving a deck on your GT-14 would be to add a "Mule Drive". This thread by @daveoman1966 gives you all the information you will need to pull it off. Dave may be able to hook you up with the needed parts. If not I'm sure @Ed Kennell or @A-Z Tractor could.
