Oil bath filter

Recommended Posts

When I purchased my WH (67 T877) it had the incorrect oil bath filter on it (it bent the front of the grill out) I took it off and placed a regular filter using just the oil bath cover. My question is...is it ok to run these Kohlers without the oil bath filters? I know they are better filters, but Im curious if the modern filters are sufficient.

None of the 3 1967 Wheelhorses we have here have an oil bath air filter. All use a regular paper element.

I've never known a study to say an oil bath filter catches more or finer particles than a modern paper filter.

Not saying it isn't true.

I'm curious to know if it is....

I have replaced the oil bath filters with the regular paper element on most of the ones I have that had them.  I noticed that the carbs with the oil bath filter where building an oil residue around the butterflies and would become sticky.  I am not saying that they didn't work, it just my preference to go with the paper element type.  I do however use the foam cover the comes with the filter and I spry it with a light coat of PB Blaster.

Sounds good to me...I have seen a few comments on youtube that credit the oil bath filters for aiding in the longevity of these older motors. Not sure if true or not. Thanks for your input on the subject.

I agree...Seems to me the oil bath filter would clog up quicker. I will half to get the foam cover, the one I bought didnt have one with it. Thanks for responding.

Pullstart

The only engine I run currently with an oil bath is on my wife’s AC WD45.  It doesn’t give me a lick of trouble and is fairly easy to clean and service.

If the oil bath clogs up, it’s doing it’s job cleaning the air.... right?  With that said, I wouldn’t go changing everything I have to oil bath, even though I would think they do a more superior job trapping particles.

Has anyone ever run a Rainbow vacuum?  Those things were so cool, even though they were gross to wash out.  It was essentially a water bath air filter and it cleaned better than any other vacuum I’ve seen yet.

Had an oil bath filter in my last truck.

Drove this Truck for 300.000 Km myself.

About oilbathfilters, the Serviceinterval is the major priority to let em Work as expected.

They simple to clean, but it was a mess to dump the old Oil here.

If serviceintervals are spreaded, i found the cleaning capacity drops dramatically.

I forgotten once the Service and expand it at double,

it was seen inside the opened Filter in the Intake pipes, there where dry dust.😱

After that i changed to a Dry Filter.

the only Issue what happened was my result, if the Filter is full ( a needed Service enlarged too much)

the Dieselengine just smokes a bit more as normal, but the intakepipes was still clean.

As my resume - yes it can be changed, the New filtertypes are actually quite better, than i ever expected.

Given Oilservice on Filter was each 5000Km at this Truck, with a paperfilter i can enlarge that Serviceinterval

easy to 10.000 Km without dramatical visible issues.

i Sold that Truck few Months ago to a friend, who‘s drive that Truck now.

At a conversation few weeks ago he told me he make a Filterservice, because he forgot it,

but no big dust was seen in the Paper, even the Intakepipe will looking clean.

This filter was changed lat time 15.000 Km at once.

Morning -  Looking for a carb.  There are plenty of carbs on the 'net, but 99% do not fit because of the choke configuration.

Background info:  Engine - K321S, 14 Horse Kohler.
Choke control cable is routed to come from BELOW the carb.  To close the choke, pull on the choke knob, the choke shaft rotates counter clockwise, and the finger tab sits at the 10 o'clock position.
To open the choke, push on the choke knob, the choke shaft rotates clockwise, and the tab sits at the 1 o'clock position.

Where can I get his carb?  Thanks in advance.

      Hi Guys,
I’m cleaning the Onan P220 carb on my 520H. It’s a Nikki 146-0479 carb. I was wondering if the main jet needs An o ring and if so which type and size? There was no o ring when I took it apart.
      Thanks!

Hello, I have a D 200. It has been running great, I was having a hard time starting it and I replace the filter and fuel pump. Adjusted the carb, and now under heavy load she will bog down and stall. If you are just driving seams fine, but if you tow a trailer with the mower, I boggs and stalls? Carb Issue or Fuel Pump?

      Thoughts?
       Thank you

Looking for the correct carburetor number for a Tecumseh H60-75063B on my 654. This is the correct engine & model number, but I can't determine the carb number so I can buy an aftermarket carb.
      Thank you!

Well I scored a gently used Briggs 900 series to repower my new 606! Doesn't have an air cleaner cover for it so I zip tied the filter on after I cleaned all the junk out of the carb and it ran good. Now it will rev slow and die after it idles a second. I'm guessing there's some more gunk in the carb that I either missed or broke free??
