stevasaurus 22,269 #178 Posted April 29, 2019 Cas, it is a rain day here. I've been searching all afternoon and come up blank...kind of...I know I could use this for not what it was intended for. You are correct, you either know what this is used for or you don't. I do not know. I did find a lot of pin vises that were knurled or machined like your example...makes me think it is from the same company. Just no cigar.
formariz 11,865 #179 Posted April 29, 2019 It is from a pocket watch. These things were many times made out of gold.

formariz 11,865 #186 Posted May 1, 2019 Not yet. Think of the two functions. Watch needs what to work? Also how was a pocket watch used?
Pullstart 59,940 #187 Posted May 1, 2019 It’s for pulling the winding button and then winding. That’s my final answer! Unless I’m wrong!
Stormin 9,976 #188 Posted May 1, 2019 Does it attach to the watch fob chain at one end and goes through a button hole? Are the jaws for gripping when replacing drive wheels?

Bingo on the second function. It was also decorative and functional in attaching to a garment. Not the correct answer on jaws which are the most important function. Not the correct answer on jaws which are the most important function. It’s a watch key, the loop is for holding the chains, the jaws are for winding and setting the watch to the proper time. That was my train of thought when I mentioned tension. I guess I should’ve been more specific, but vagueness can reveal a lot 🤷🏻♂️😂

Correct. It is a pocket watch T Bar Key. Earlier watches used a key rather than a knob to wind mechanism. Key could also be used to adjust hands to correct time. In addition to that it was attached to chain allowing it to be fasted to garment . Very convenient. @LengerichKA88 and @Stormin share the prize. And that is the next Whatizits. 3

LengerichKA88 1,881 #194 Posted May 3, 2019 (edited) This one might be a little easier, but we shall see. This tool serves two purposes, let’s see if one person can figure out both. Edited May 3, 2019 by LengerichKA88
ebinmaine 63,364 #195 Posted May 3, 2019 I've got that one. But I'm going to let others go for it. Maybe somebody can break in and cut to the chase.. 1
Sarge 3,462 #196 Posted May 3, 2019 Emergency escape tool - the cutter is for cutting a jammed seat belt, and the pointed end is for breaking automotive type glass. Most of those tools don't have the weight to break the glass, just fyi. Sarge 1

Thanks, I caught up on some memories with 10 good friends. A very large gobbler did put on a show of strutting and answering my calls for 1 hour and 50 minutes. I was enjoying the show so much, I forgot I was there to bring home the turkey. He eventual got tired of the game and walked away. 1

Sarge Issued gear is the only advantage I have on most of you guys 😂 The one we were issued looked more like a 1911 Bushing wrench in shape and size. I did get it to break glass, but not until the 3rd or 4th strike. This one seems to be a better design, allowing for better grip and leverage. Still probably too light as you mentioned though.
