formariz 11,865 #601 Posted May 16, 2019 (edited) Its a predominantly a Mediterranean fruit although when in California I saw plenty of them. Very important in our diets and widely used. Edited May 16, 2019 by formariz
LengerichKA88 1,881 #602 Posted May 16, 2019 (edited) Olives Rake it through the branches to pull the fruit off. I know olives are a fruit, but others may not. Edited May 16, 2019 by LengerichKA88

Would you charge admission for a tour of your place? 😂 I started thinking about what I’d eaten eaten when I was there, and a stone oven baked pizza I had came to mind. Little itty bitty place, maybe seated 14. Best pizza I’ve ever had, hands down. Just crust, sauce, cheese, and olives. 1
formariz 11,865 #605 Posted May 17, 2019 They lined the ground under the trees with large white cloth sheets and then just ripped fruit off by raking tool through branches. Fruit does not fit through tool's teeth and get ripped out. Olive leaves are tiny and real strong so not many get pulled off. Trees are also short so most times one does it from floor or on top of some step stools. Then a couple of people would pull up ends of sheets making like a sac and would drag it to an oxen cart with a big wooden tub on it and emptied olives into it. I attended a few harvests when I was very young. Olive trees live very long. It is not unusual to see trees which are six hundred years old or much more. They also have one of the hardest wood there is. Widely used over there to make wooden bearings for windmills or any thing that creates a lot of friction.
LengerichKA88 1,881 #606 Posted May 17, 2019 My grandpa had a Russian Olive in his front yard. He’s the reason I knew they were a fruit haha. “Fruit” always brings the more common to mind first, which is why I was thinking citrus. The sad react made me switch directions. I’ll think of something....

LengerichKA88 1,881 #612 Posted May 17, 2019 Probably should’ve used this one a lot earlier, but I figured @Ed Kennell or @formariz would get it quickly. Hopefully I’m wrong
