PeacemakerJack 10,671 #128 Posted August 24, 2018 Thanks for the kind words guys, I’ll pass them along to dad! I wish I would’ve taken a picture of Clyde when dad brought it up to Uncle Bob’s farm day last weekend. He had the plow on the front and the furrow plow on the back for display. Then when we went to the field to plow, he removed the blade in just a minute and then went plowing! That tractor makes a GREAT furrow plow tractor. The ground at Bobs was tough since it has been so dry here so dad had Zach drive the tractor and he stood on the plow cutting about a 5” furrow. It was running first gear about half throttle and going at it like no ones business. The ground clearance and skinny tall implement tires work great. @Shynon a K301 on this tractor platform is the ticket! When you get yours finished, the machine may end up in semi retirement 4
RandyLittrell 3,827 #129 Posted August 25, 2018 Seems like I asked somebody just how tall the 7.60's are, not sure if it was you. I know what miller says about the height, but did you put a tape to it, or maybe try them on your GT14? Sorry to be a pain, but I know I can't be the only one to wonder just how well they might fit on the GT. Looks like the 953 might be a little more forgiving with tire height. Thanks! Pullstart 59,740 #130 Posted August 28, 2018 Another great documentary by @PeacemakerJack, thanks for sharing these stories! Man, that thing plows awesome. I’m at the dealership getting my second oil change on the truck, thankful for this site to help me pass the time
PeacemakerJack 10,671 #131 Posted August 28, 2018 The kids in my church call me “storyman Stertz”. These threads like this tend to be story heavy by me. I have a hard time cutting straight to the details and so I’m glad that someone out there enjoys my “documentary” style. Thanks Kevin. I know what you mean about being somewhere that you need to pass some time. This site provides hours of “entertainment” when we need it!

I don’t think I’d care if it was a fairytale about a tractor a long long time ago, you’d tell it well i’m sure!

Any tractor without them, he says, “when are you putting AG-bars on this tractor dad?” Is the question that is soon in coming... 2

They can get you way out into the mire...but if they can't pull you all the way thru you are in big trouble because you can't back out....
PeacemakerJack 10,671 #137 Posted October 8, 2018 Although these are posted elsewhere on the forum, I needed to post them here because this thread is a record of this tractor and special memories with it. It will be much easier to point my kids to it in the upcoming years to read about our history with this cool 953! Got to do some plowing with Dad’s Clyde. It was the first time that I got some serious distraction free time to plow with this machine. I’m definitely impressed with it. No problem plowing in second gear with good ground conditions. I was cutting a 5-7” deep furrow and dad’s land wheel was working great...I just need to get those custom decals from @Vinylguy to complete the look of the plow. This plow mule is great! Dad was on a missions trip to Sofia, Bulgaria and wasn’t around to plow with me. I’m hoping it works out for us to plow sometime in the future together with conditions that were this good! 6
Vinylguy 4,666 #138 Posted October 8, 2018 I promise to get back to this plow decal project for you soon. We are closing the lake house this week and will be home for the winter. @ebinmaine is first on the list though. Unfortunately I lost most of my illustration Files for the past 3 years to a hard drive crash so I will be starting over on the plow decals. 2
PeacemakerJack 10,671 #139 Posted October 8, 2018 Sorry to hear about the loss Terry. Your skill level is such that I know you will do a great job on the redesign whenever you are able to get to it. You do such great work that I’m confident your decal is the finishing touch dad’s plow needs visually! 4

PeacemakerJack 10,671 #142 Posted October 18, 2018 I wish I could say that I had done all of that but it was started by my cousin Mike with his “White Knight” Case GT a couple of days earlier. I made probably 20-25 rounds in the time that I had that evening. So I plowed about 20’ on each side of that field section in around an hour.

PeacemakerJack 10,671 #144 Posted June 15, 2020 This thread has been dormant for awhile but understand that Dad has been finding more ways to use old Clyde all the time! As mentioned above, it was first and foremost a “plough” mule, then dad bought a blade and made it a plow mule. Now using my grader blade it is a “grade” mule! (calendar Shot with iron horse in background) Dad loves fresh, shiny paint and the four or five coats of old paint in various shades of red have been bugging him over the last several years and so he decided to get working on the paint this last weekend... since Clyde is a full time draft horse, dad isn’t doing a resto, he is just giving him a fresh set of work clothes😉. Stripping off layers of paint to get to the bare metal and then straighten it out. Clyde has been a really strong running machine ever since I bought it from @Shynon and so this refurbish is just cosmetic. That tool box back panel was pretty dented and so dad straightened it the best he could and it now smoothing it with filler. However, the side panels and hood were in solid condition and didn’t require much massaging. So, those already have made it to the “paint booth” I’m going to order a set of decals from @Vinylguy to surprise dad for Father’s Day from the kids and I!!! Knowing Dad, he’ll probably have this thing painted and reassembled by the weeks end. Stay tuned... 2 7
PeacemakerJack 10,671 #145 Posted June 15, 2020 Stopped by dad’s after work today and helped him strip some more parts off Clyde today... We pulled the front axle, grill, and finally the engine! Also...thank you Terry @Vinylguy for taking time out of your busy day to discuss decals for Clyde. I’m looking forward to seeing the custom serial number on the new shift pattern decal. I still can’t believe that the K241 is only that...looks like the size of K321 to me in the sheer size but I know what the data plate says🤔 4 4 2

PeacemakerJack 10,671 #147 Posted June 23, 2020 Dad doesn’t let any “grass grow under his feet” and that is evidenced by yesterday’s progress! The package from Terry showed up on Friday and so we wrapped it and gave it to dad for a Father’s Day gift. I think that motivated him even more to wrap this thing up. He had painted everything on Saturday and it had the weekend to start curing. What’s funny about this is the fact that I bought this tractor for him knowing that he likes them with clean paint (not a big patina guy) and I felt like the paint on here was acceptable from 10 feet away. It was, in my mind, the perfect worker because you still didn’t have to worry about scratching the paint. However, I could tell that the paint brush paint job was heating on dad as he began to drop hints that he would paint—at least the hood and fenders! Next thing you know we are detailing the engine, painting parts in various colors, and generally making it look like a restore! In one day he has it nearly assembled. Hoping today or tomorrow to be finished and ready for Terry’s awesome decals! Old Clyde will not only continue to be a great worker but will look sweet doing it! 1 7
