Lawn Ranger 6 up Tecumseh

Recommended Posts

Last fall I purchased a 1967 Lawn Ranger at an auction. It was to be my winter project but that did not work out well as I had too many other projects. I did get the engine running after soaking the carb and other carb related tasks. Today I pushed the tractor out to see if would still run. I did find out that the gas shut off valve has to be turned on! After I got it started it ran fairly well but accelerated way beyond what it should and I had to shut down the throttle quickly. It acts like there is a governor problem but I am not sure what is going on. I have worked on small engines all my life but have never had a governor problem so I am in the dark. The engine will not idle properly then when the throttle is pulled out the engine tries to "run away"!! Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

It could be a great deal of things you could of put the linkages in the wrongs slots the arm may be unadjusted causing it to over revvv etc..

Did you have the governor linkage apart in your clean up? If so you may have to readjust the governor. Even if you didn't have it apart it is a good idea to check it because it may not have been set correct anyway. The governor gear is made out of plastic/nylon and they do wear out which causes an over-rev. If that is bad you are taking the motor apart. Like Desko said, there is quite a bit going on with the linkages on a Tecky, everything has an effect on every thing! If you bent one of the linkages in the slightest it will create bad ju-ju with a Techy for sure. You'll have to dive right in, a manual will help you. They can be a challenge but when they are set up right they do run good.

Thanks Ken and Desko for the replies. I have not had the linkage apart. The only things I have done is clean the carb, pull the head and cleaned the top of the piston and valves and put in new points and condenser. I adjusted the timing (I think to the proper setting as it is a little tricky). The motor seems to run great except for the problem explained earlier. Last night I did look at the on-line manual for the HH60 and will look at the linkage today and readjust and try again. I had the carb on and off several times while trying to get the motor running so I could have bent something even though I was very careful not to do that. Thanks again. I may have further questions so stay tuned!!

Morning -  Looking for a carb.  There are plenty of carbs on the 'net, but 99% do not fit because of the choke configuration.

Background info:  Engine - K321S, 14 Horse Kohler.
Choke control cable is routed to come from BELOW the carb.  To close the choke, pull on the choke knob, the choke shaft rotates counter clockwise, and the finger tab sits at the 10 o'clock position.
To open the choke, push on the choke knob, the choke shaft rotates clockwise, and the tab sits at the 1 o'clock position.

Where can I get his carb?  Thanks in advance.

When I purchased my WH (67 T877) it had the incorrect oil bath filter on it (it bent the front of the grill out) I took it off and placed a regular filter using just the oil bath cover. My question is...is it ok to run these Kohlers without the oil bath filters? I know they are better filters, but Im curious if the modern filters are sufficient.

      Hi Guys,
I’m cleaning the Onan P220 carb on my 520H. It’s a Nikki 146-0479 carb. I was wondering if the main jet needs An o ring and if so which type and size? There was no o ring when I took it apart.
      Thanks!

Hello, I have a D 200. It has been running great, I was having a hard time starting it and I replace the filter and fuel pump. Adjusted the carb, and now under heavy load she will bog down and stall. If you are just driving seams fine, but if you tow a trailer with the mower, I boggs and stalls? Carb Issue or Fuel Pump?

      Thoughts?
       Thank you

Looking for the correct carburetor number for a Tecumseh H60-75063B on my 654. This is the correct engine & model number, but I can't determine the carb number so I can buy an aftermarket carb.
      Thank you!
