4on4 Bolt Hub Front Wheel Conversion

Recommended Posts

70sVintageTrikes

This will work for atleast Suburban Models and whatever else has same front spindles and 8'' wheels.

Here is what I have come up with to convert your factory rusted out front wheels to a 4on4 Bolt hub 4 lug 8" (trailer) wheel.

X2  4x4 Wheel hub (From BMI Karts & Supplies) #260056 $20.95ea

X4  Flanged Wheel Bearing 3/4x1 3/8 (Frome BMI Karts & Supplies) #300175 $3.00ea

X2  8''x4'' {4 Bolt Rim} (From Surplus Center) ~Lincoln, Ne.~ #1-3860 $12.95ea

X4  Shaft Collar 3/4 Bore 1 1/4 O.D. 9/16 Width. (Frome Surplus Center) #1-2766-75 $1.55ea

Other than tires that you probably already have, This would cost about $86.00. Might seem like alot but I feel its worth it if you dont think your GT has to be as close to new as a Knats @ $ $.

If you have any questions, Reply to thread or send me a message. Thx

Any 8''x4" wide 4on4 trailer wheel will work..

Wheel-N-It

Although you may be on to something, I think you should put some more time in trying to find a hub with better (heavier duty) bearings as I don't see where you are actually upgrading anything. You would really have the same end result by just buying a set of wheels with the same bearings inserted in each end.

The four bolt look is cool though, but see if you can find a set of hubs that will give you some kind of advantage.

One thing to keep in mind is... when it coms to RJs and Suburbans originality is key to collectors and/or on lookers... so if you are going biuld a worker tractor I think you suggestion is the way to go... but if you are looking to restore the tractor for show and shine then the hunt for an original set should continue.

I understand what your saying about the bearings. The reason I didnt list a better qaulity bearing because they would most likley be double in price.

With this Suburban, It wont be that correct to original unless I replace the H60 with the correct H55. I have located 3 Stock wheels at this point as you know and I think Im gonna buy those too.

Twice the price but the center measurement of 4.5" instead of 3" like the ones i ordered above . Thats why i will use collars for spacers.

:twocents-02cents: One of the members gave me the idea and have started but not finished, and yes I know it's dirty and greasy, still using it to mow.  Course this is a C -120 with bolt, requires additional shim, and yes is double cost. Drawback uses sealed bearings and no zerk installed. The same type hub with tapered bearings is available, sealed and unsealed at a lower cost. Don't really like the 1/2-20 studs as don't match 7/16-20 rear studs. I have to credit member dbartlet... and Hydro (Gary) for the inspiration. This is a good post covering similar

Wheel Horse RJ-58 with RMR-32 deck and a slot hitch cultivator for sale. I got this cleaned up, motor swapped from a giant old 3hp Briggs (got rid of the spacers the previous owner had under the hood) and rebuilt the mower deck with new bearings, bearing blocks and gear covers, found two sets of NOS blade tips, mowed the yard five or six times and it's ready to go to a new home. Found that the model/serial were hand-stamped on the frame alongside the tag. Weld-repaired some cracks on the RMR-32 and the slot hitch. I don't have the room or time to do a proper restoration. As it sits, it's a solid mowing machine that's ready to work for another 50 years.

      The good:
Great running Predator 212cc, trimmed airbox and routed exhaust to work with hood
Cleaned gas tank and new gas line/filter
      New shifter boot
      New belts
      Fresh grease in all fittings
Flushed and fresh gear lube in transmission
      New bearings in RMR-32 spindles
New bearing blocks for RMR-32 driveshaft
Solid deck, very few if any rust spots
NOS hi-lift blade tips less than a season old
Additional set of NOS hi-lift blade tips
      Smooth-shifting transmission
      Original BFGoodrich/Firestone tires
Tag/serial number still attached to frame
Cultivator has been freed up and adjusts properly

      The not good:
      Weld-repaired front wheels
Rear tire inner sidewalls starting to peel
Hood has a few extra holes cut in
      No belt guards
Right rear hub had a bolt driven into the key slot and stripped the threads - I removed it and cleaned up the keyslot, added another threaded hole and put a set screw and fresh key in. The hub has been shimmed on the shaft with brass stock to take up some slack left by the old bolt and shaft wallowing it out slightly.

Husband wants some advice… lol.  So we did an engine swap today on two suburbans because we could not get the one engine to spark all the time to get it running!  The engine ran last year before parking for the winter sleep…. Points were changed out for new the engine was cleaned to make good contact has new spark plug new coil condenser we even switched out the fly wheel today thinking maybe the magnet was weak…. Advice???   It would where are you out yanking on the recoil five or so times and maybe only get the points to fire twice if you’re lucky..  checked the gap and pull again… same thing over and over!  Thanks in advance!
