The coveted 3-piece Wheel Horse seat

Recommended Posts

rmaynard

Before the Wheel Horse show back in June, I was looking for an original seat for my Commando 8. Although I didn't find what I was looking for, I was sent various pieces of seats, which included several seat pans. Among the pans that I received was this one, sent to me by bowtiebutler956.

When I went to the show, I looked around various vendors for seat parts that I could make a correct seat for the Commando. But while looking, I found that parts for the 3-piece seat were more available than parts for the Commando seat. So I purchased a pretty beat bottom cushion, several ripped covers for the top cushions, a foam insert to use for a pattern, an adjusting knob, and so on.

I took the seat pan to my powder coater, and just picked it up today. Here's the result.

After working on the cushions and upholstery for the last couple of weeks, I finally have my coveted 3-piece seat.

Now I have a dilemma. The seat looks so good that I don't want to use it. Maybe I will just sell it and buy another seat from Northern Tools. :hide:

Don't worry Craig, by the time the next WHCC show comes around, I may have the Commando seat done too.

looks really nice bob. i can understand you not wanting to use it. for me an original seat on any of mine would be nice, but i dont ever want to not use a tractor because of 'too nice to use' parts. thats why i buy the northern tools ones. i like to use all of my tractors. even got the 1057 plenty dirty this past weekend at the charlotte show.........

That came out great Bob! Have you ever used one of those type seats? I had a real nice on that came on my 75 C-100 but it was one of the most uncomfortable seats ever. I ended up selling it.

So.....did ya restore the sweet seat I gave ya :ychain: at the show?

Mike...........

Boy that is sweet! I'll bring a towel to wipe my sweaty thigh marks off at the show :laughing-rofl:

What color/brand did the coater use? I was gonna get some pieces done, but I was afraid they wouldn't match the paint I'm using.

If you remember the C-141 High Performance tractor that was in my tent at the show, it's the same as that. The color is Mirror Red. I don't know who the manufacturer is, but it's a nice shade of red.

Looks great Bob. I had a C series that I sold and kept the same seat from because it was so comfortable. Like yours it's in very good condition. I'd keep it and put it on one of your trailer princess's.

Bingo!

That's exceptional Bob. Did you do your own upholstery work? Nice job saving the imprinted logo.

Unfortunately, a needle and thread and I don't get along. I actually only had a split seam on the top piece, and a hole in the butt piece. I repaired the hole with an Eastwood kit, and the seam was repaired by the upholsterer.

Tell us more about the Eastwood Kit Bob. Easy to use? Expensive? Happy with it or not?

I purchased the kit for about $24.00. If you have a small hole (1/4" or less) or a very small tear, it is not too bad. Practice on a piece of scrap before attempting to do a repair on the good seat. After the repair was cured, I dyed the entire seat with VHT vinyl dye.

I may have to try that. I've got two small scuffs on mine that are about 1/4 inch long and go down to the fabric on the back. Not very noticable but I'd like to seal them up.

Nice piece of work. That seat was used on a lot of models in the 1970's.

C - Series, Hood and Sheet Metal (square black insert) (also known as black hood models) for sale!

The painted set is not perfect, a little metal pitting on one of the floorboards, a few little imperfections in the paint here and there as I'm a rookie painter, but this is a nice painted set of sheet metal to freshen up your C Series Wheel Horse!

Does anyone know where I could find a complete engine rebuild kit from for the k-19 ? I absolutely love my c-195 and have had it for years. But the motor let go last fall and I want to rebuild it or upgrade the motor, any suggestions?

Picked up a 1972 Commando 800 w/36” rear discharge. From the grandson of the original owner. Hasn’t run in decades but have no doubt that with some cleaning up of carb, fuel system and check the head, it will run like a Horse.
Has anyone ever seen the steering cap logo like this?
