Front Wheel Weights

Finally got to mount up my JD brand front wheel weights. I painted these twice the first time just made a gooey mess, I dont know what kinda yellow paint they use but think that may be where the slogan ”nothing runs like deere” came from . FYI This style weight will NOT work without drilling new holes and are to wide/thick to work on the regular style wheels ie c series, older square or round hoods.

@sqrlgtr  basic  question ? do any related  wheel bearing  function check ?  like a re grease and or added shimming  to remove wheel wobble ? Qurious , pete

@peter lena Yeah replaced wheel brgs with some quality machined brgs. Also cleaned all the old grease out of spindle bores and spindles and put new red and tacky grease in them. I would like to install brgs under spindles like the 520H has it steers a-lot easier😃. Just have no mill to do it with.

What is the PGN part number for those bearings?  I need some new one's myself.   Thanks.

@Bill D  make a point of  always trying to get a wide side seal on any bearing , if possible ?  its not the bearing itself  but the very questionable  lubricant used in them ?  every  bearing  I have in usage , has been cleaned out  and refilled with ,  https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lucas-Xtra-Heavy-Duty-Grease/36052505?w , 550 deg flash point , polyurea rated . anti sling , never had a related failure  , mower decks  / mule  drives , anything that  was a CHRONIC  FAILURE ISSUE , has been eliminated . like a small flat  putty knife , for side seal removal , no damage at all , wipe out  original lube , carb cleaner  flush  , no original lube debris , that lucas will show itself in durability , also did my pto  cone inner needle bearing  . engine heat  kills that  lube , clean out  , flush , very light  ammount , excess slings to clutch face , new outer sealed bearing , detailed the hell out of my  3 horses , remove problems , pete

I am sure the machinists will cringe but to put flat thrust bearings and/or oilite bearings on I just grind a bit off the top of the axle enough so the e clip can go back on.  I know the bottom of the axle may not be perfect but it is better than nothing and I have no way of resurfacing that side.

@pfrederi I have been debating on trying this and you may have just given me the courage to do it. I have one or two axle laying around if I mess up to bad, I reckon. you know I seem to remember someone using a piloted cutter also with pretty good luck.

I just did this a few weeks ago on my 161 thinking it might help when I installed the FEL. I used a 60 grit flapper wheel on an angle grinder to take the top off the axle. Washers and bearing were only 1/8" and it was surprisingly easy to take that off.

@pfrederi @ineedanother you got a link to those bearings and washers, I need to go ahead and order them. Then I want have any excuse not to try it . BTW could you tell any difference in steering?

Thanks, I had ordered some fer the 520H but couldn't remember what size I needed for the C160.
