Carhold 42s fuel pump

Recommended Posts

gt14rider

Good evening all, @953 nut @Ed Kennell I am looking to buy a Carhold 42s fuel pump, can you give any pros or cons on this pump? I read a mixed review on this. Have you had any issues with your pump. Life time warranty?  Facet posi-flo is double in price.

I have the Carbole 42S pumps on all my tractors.    The only issue I had was my fault.   I tightened the inlet filter too tight and broke the bond between the plastic body and the metal threaded fitting.      Do not let them run dry.      I always power mine from the ignition  or coil tab on the ignition switch.

I use Mr. Gasket 42s pumps on my tractors. I've heard, and they look, like identical pumps but considering that the Mr. Gasket pump is about twice the cost I was curious so I did a few minutes of research before I wrote this. They are NOT the same. So......my glowing report on the Mr. Gasket can be ignored. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to try a Carbole because of their price point. They do go 'whirrrrr' when running and not 'thumpy, thumpy' like the cheapies. I tried those and had an over 50% failure rate. I try to find a spot near the tank to mount them as it's easier to push the fuel than to suck it. :)

I have had no problems with the Carbole solid state pumps, they cost a bit more than the round "Thumper" pumps but are well worth it in my opinion.

@Ed Kennell  have also  added a single green LED , bulb to my dash to  verify  pumps operation , years in , very quiet , solid  operation , regularly do a series of operational  checks / verifications to any experiment  I  try, basically  TWEEKING  any point  of  issue ,. linkages  are  king for me , how tiny ENHANCEMENTS , can make a train wreck , into a  seamless function . enjoy your  A/C . pete

@Racinbob no  fuel filter from tank ? another just before carb ?  collective / repetitive issue ?  years in on this , cleaned out tank , clear  fuel rated hose , also started using  1 to 2  oz of  STA BIL  to all my tank top offs , guess what  ?  never have any  fuel hose , break down debris anywhere , isn't that what you want ? clear  fuel hose up to carb with a  check valve ? so I am looking  right at  what's going to carb . operational  check , what's it doing ?   also another  great spot  to  lay in a 5/16 frame length steel brake line . tubing bender  for tweaking , about 4 ft , eliminate a lot of hose issue ?  why not ? inner  frame upper 90 deg angle is perfect  hiding spot for this , lots of related holes for  trials ,  tie wraps , let you experiment , have no  fuel rated issues at all  , years in . love repetitive  issues ,  like bearing failures , its not in the book , just talkin , pete

Shutoff at the tank, one fuel filter before pump, no check valve, booze free fuel, no additives. Never had fuel issues. It's worked for me for decades.

I have had the cheap and the expensive. I have had both fail.

I have installed more of the $15 ones (4) and they been running fine.

I believe price is not always a factor of quality.

I like lean toward the square one....not sure why.

Got another question,  best place you've found for the pump? Near tank( maybe under tank) or in front of engine? I'll make a bracket for mounting. Sorry for the bad artwork :USA:

Best (I think a must) if the pump is lower than the tank. It is not easy but with a little creativeness can be done

On this one the filter is back near the tank and the shift plate can be taken off to change filters. I do use an automotive wix filter that has a large capacity.

Rear pump mounting on an xi, not some of my best work. It was a cheap pump and worked really nice.

This one has the battery up on top and rear tank.

Your doing the right thing just putting the pump in a place and seeing if it is workable. These machine sometimes are tight on space.

Every tractor is different. It's best to have it below the tank. On my 2005 Classic (pic above) the location was almost a no brainer. But it can't happen on a hydro. On my 76 I didn't like anything under the hood. The fuel tank and battery took up a lot of the space. I ended up mounting it under the seat and running the extra fuel line.

This is the original install. That's a cheapie pump which failed about 3 football fields from the garage. A 42s has replaced it.

Pump should be here today, I'll get the torch and BMFH ready. Nothing some duct tape and bubble gum can't fix. I'll take pictures :USA:
