gt14rider 1,231 #1 Posted Tuesday at 11:20 PM Good evening all, @953 nut @Ed Kennell I am looking to buy a Carhold 42s fuel pump, can you give any pros or cons on this pump? I read a mixed review on this. Have you had any issues with your pump. Life time warranty? Facet posi-flo is double in price.
peter lena 9,938 #2 Posted Tuesday at 11:43 PM @ gt14rider, been using a carbole low pressure 3.5 psi pumps for years , very similar in shape / size , very solid no issues at all , have mine just in front of engine , very good , pete
Ed Kennell 46,507 #3 Posted yesterday at 12:12 AM (edited) I have the Carbole 42S pumps on all my tractors. The only issue I had was my fault. I tightened the inlet filter too tight and broke the bond between the plastic body and the metal threaded fitting. Do not let them run dry. I always power mine from the ignition or coil tab on the ignition switch. Edited yesterday at 12:14 AM by Ed Kennell 3
Racinbob 13,029 #4 Posted yesterday at 10:11 AM I use Mr. Gasket 42s pumps on my tractors. I've heard, and they look, like identical pumps but considering that the Mr. Gasket pump is about twice the cost I was curious so I did a few minutes of research before I wrote this. They are NOT the same. So......my glowing report on the Mr. Gasket can be ignored. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to try a Carbole because of their price point. They do go 'whirrrrr' when running and not 'thumpy, thumpy' like the cheapies. I tried those and had an over 50% failure rate. I try to find a spot near the tank to mount them as it's easier to push the fuel than to suck it. 2
953 nut 67,314 #5 Posted yesterday at 11:08 AM I have had no problems with the Carbole solid state pumps, they cost a bit more than the round "Thumper" pumps but are well worth it in my opinion.
peter lena 9,938 #6 Posted yesterday at 11:48 AM @Ed Kennell have also added a single green LED , bulb to my dash to verify pumps operation , years in , very quiet , solid operation , regularly do a series of operational checks / verifications to any experiment I try, basically TWEEKING any point of issue ,. linkages are king for me , how tiny ENHANCEMENTS , can make a train wreck , into a seamless function . enjoy your A/C . pete
peter lena 9,938 #7 Posted yesterday at 12:14 PM @Racinbob no fuel filter from tank ? another just before carb ? collective / repetitive issue ? years in on this , cleaned out tank , clear fuel rated hose , also started using 1 to 2 oz of STA BIL to all my tank top offs , guess what ? never have any fuel hose , break down debris anywhere , isn't that what you want ? clear fuel hose up to carb with a check valve ? so I am looking right at what's going to carb . operational check , what's it doing ? also another great spot to lay in a 5/16 frame length steel brake line . tubing bender for tweaking , about 4 ft , eliminate a lot of hose issue ? why not ? inner frame upper 90 deg angle is perfect hiding spot for this , lots of related holes for trials , tie wraps , let you experiment , have no fuel rated issues at all , years in . love repetitive issues , like bearing failures , its not in the book , just talkin , pete

Never had fuel issues. It's worked for me for decades. 1
JoeM 10,080 #9 Posted 17 hours ago I have had the cheap and the expensive. I have had both fail. I have installed more of the $15 ones (4) and they been running fine. I believe price is not always a factor of quality. I like lean toward the square one....not sure why.
gt14rider 1,231 #10 Posted 14 hours ago Got another question, best place you've found for the pump? Near tank( maybe under tank) or in front of engine? I'll make a bracket for mounting. Sorry for the bad artwork
JoeM 10,080 #11 Posted 2 hours ago Best (I think a must) if the pump is lower than the tank. It is not easy but with a little creativeness can be done On this one the filter is back near the tank and the shift plate can be taken off to change filters. I do use an automotive wix filter that has a large capacity. Rear pump mounting on an xi, not some of my best work. It was a cheap pump and worked really nice.
gt14rider 1,231 #12 Posted 2 hours ago @JoeM nice work, first Pic, where's the battery go?⁰
JoeM 10,080 #13 Posted 2 hours ago (edited) This one has the battery up on top and rear tank. Your doing the right thing just putting the pump in a place and seeing if it is workable. These machine sometimes are tight on space. Edited 2 hours ago by JoeM

I'll make a bracket for mounting. Sorry for the bad artwork Every tractor is different. It's best to have it below the tank. On my 2005 Classic (pic above) the location was almost a no brainer. But it can't happen on a hydro. On my 76 I didn't like anything under the hood. The fuel tank and battery took up a lot of the space. I ended up mounting it under the seat and running the extra fuel line. This is the original install. That's a cheapie pump which failed about 3 football fields from the garage. A 42s has replaced it.
gt14rider 1,231 #15 Posted 2 hours ago Pump should be here today, I'll get the torch and BMFH ready. Nothing some duct tape and bubble gum can't fix. I'll take pictures
