Choke Assembly

1517386815_ChokeAssembly.jpg.94ad6c87256cae094180832f46fae038.jpgI have a WH 300 series with a Kohler Magnum 10 engine and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the choke cable and linkage set so it will work. The numbers on the engine label  are worn off the, so I cannot give anyone that information. Does anyone have a picture or can you head me in the right direction.

My arm for the linkage assembly is set at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock if that helps. There seems to be several different linkage rods for this engine.

Thanks

Gary Williams

Here you go. I had to replace the choke bar that the linkage attaches to, with a different one, as the air filter plate will hit the one on the new carburetor.

@ebinmaine it looks pretty close. With the exception being the linkage that goes from the cantilever to the choke being bent. both M12’s I have are straight. Maybe the M10’s are different.

That's the old K series carb style. The Magnum would have a back facing arm.

I had a straight rod but that wouldn't work at all.

I don't have easy access to a Magnum here to compare.

I'm thinking your K Series carb has a reversed pull on the choke arm in comparison to the later model Magnum engines.

The K pulls down from the front on that short arm vs the Magnum pulling down from the side closer to the engine block.

The Magnum also has a longer arm which of course would change the geometry.

Yes the Magnum orientation for the choke is opposite of a K series.

Magnum have an additional lever in between which reverses the direction of the link connected to the choke lever.

Did that new carb come with an additional choke rod to swap out on the carb?

If that link from the lever to the carb is straightened then connected to the top hole in the choke it will work BUT opposite. As in the the choke will be on when the control lever is UP. And then in the open / run position when the control lever is down. But that type of choke lever on the carb may hit the air cleaner.

That could be a push/ pull knob too.

Choke OFF would be a stickin-out knob.

300 series tractor should have levers but yes, good info for future searches to the same problem.

I'll see if I have an old Magnum carb out there to show the lever difference on the carbs. I might even have a spare lever that came with the replacement carbs

I got it working with a old choke linkage rod that I had. I did see where small engine parts has one that is properly bent.

Someone asked if the carburetor came with a different choke rod, but no it didn't. I just swapped the one off my old carburetor so that it wouldn't hit the air filter plate.

It's pretty tricky to swap the bar because there is a tiny spring and a small ball bearing that have to be swapped out too.

      Hey all!

Replacing the drive belt on my 252-h. Anyone know the torque specification for the center screw when I put this pto clutch back on? I know it was on there tight it took a minute for the impact to break it loose. Thanks!

Hey all. I have a Electro 12 with a factory belly blade. It runs* and drives. I had used it to grade my driveway the last 6 yrs. Having moved I'm looking at my options on storing it or selling it. Frankly I have no idea what it is worth. I watched "ISaveTractors" video on 5 things to do with a new to you wheel horse/12hp kohler. (When i got it 6yrs ago) And went thru and did the adjustments and replaced the parts mentioned. It has been a good strong tractor for me until around July of this year. (2023)
*Around July it started dying after running 20-30min. I replaced the carb (Chinese Amazon purchase) with one from isavetractors web site. That seemed to help it idle smoother(the old carbs jets wouldnt adjust), but it still dies at around 20-30min.
      So I've got 2 questions.
      1. What is it worth? (As-Is) and
      2. What do I need to do to fix it?
      Thanks yall!
