Spring purpose on this snow blower

Recommended Posts

Heatingman

Picked up this blower a couple weeks ago. Guy said its for a B80.

And best I can tell it is. Everything appears to be functional, and in tact. Ive lubed a few parts, but its on the back burner till I get my tractor back together. I’ll probably just lube everything, do a quick sanding to remove the rust and fresh paint without major teardown or total strip, if anything.

Anyways, What is the purpose of the larger spring? Small one is for belt tension.

The larger appears to not have anything to mount to.

Would that be part of the attachment to the front hitch?

That spring helps you lift it. you hook one end to the lift flag and the other end to the rod the front of the footboard clamps to. You did get the flag didn't you?

Isn’t that it zip tied to the front?  Also:  Would you know if there’s any advantage to installing that helper spring with a hydraulic lift?  Will it noticeably reduce wear or increase responsiveness or anything?  Tx.

Flag is in the tube. The guy I bought it from was very clear that the flag was an often lost, and potentially hard to find but needed part.

Can anyone tell me if that spring is available by size and where to get one?

@OldWorkHorse Steve and I were shooting the breeze the other day and he mentioned I'd want that assist spring.

Still trying to figure out what it connects to.

I see from the file that was shared it attaches to the lift flag, but where on the tractor?

@Heatingman Front of spring attaches to the cross bar that the feet rest slide onto and the rear of the spring attaches to the eye bolt in the flag lift and can adjust tension by adjusting the eye bolt. Also the snowblower attaches to the front attachomatic

Blower weighs a ton I end up having to use a car jack to get it up and into place to lock in but once on works amazing even for a single stage short shoot on a 14hp magnum.

I believe I have a spare and the eye bolt too - will check.  If I forget to get back to you on that, feel free to pm me.

Got any old garage door springs?  You can cut a 7" piece and roll yer own.

Ive seen similar springs in the hardware dept. at Menards also.

Would think Farm and fleet or tractor supply may carry similar also.

We have TSC here. Not the others. Maybe at a hardware store too.

I don't have any measurements though...

We have TSC, Family Farm and Home, Blaine’s Farm and Fleet and on the other side of the pond is Fleet Farm.  We’re blessed with more options than we need.  It’s like those need a penny take a penny have a penny give a penny boxes on the counter.  You’ll save at one joint and pay through the nose for another item where you could’a saved on the other and paired through the nose elsewhere!
