  1. One of the most detailed I've seen. https://www.homemadetools.net/forum/garden-tractor-loader-videos-85395?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=05-21-21&utm_content=05-21-21-181510&fi=181510#post181510

    D series Steering

On my D200, when I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, it has a tight turn radius, but when I turn it all the way to the right, the turn radius is significantly wider. The tie rods appear to be adjusted evenly. Anyone have a similar problem and what was done to fix it? The steering does have quite a bit of play, at least 1/4 to 1/2 turn of the wheel.

    Leaky steering fitting lube fitting?

Okay, so I just know just enough about engines to do basic care & know when something is wrong. I have what presented as a hydraulic leak on my 416H with fluid spraying everywhere from under the center of the tractor and it is really only significant when the PTO is engaged. I took the mowing deck off today expecting to find a cracked hose or loose fitting. Wrong! Instead I found fluid coming out from the steering shaft on the opposite side of what I am finding is called the "steering fitting lube" piece on the Toro parts website. So where it shows part #7 going in the fluid is leaking out of the other side. I'm really at a loss on this one.

  5. I need some advice. Worked all afternoon and was unsuccessful at removing the steering wheel from a 1961 Wheel Horse tractor. How is the wheel attached to the steering column? There appear to be two holes where I suspect that the wheel is secured, but I cannot find a way to loosen any type of a fastener. Has anyone had a problem with this? I have a wheel puller attached but that wheel is really on there. How do I get this off?
  6. Has anyone converted a 520-8 over to gear reduction steering? Some questions if you have: 1. Does the motor have to come out? 2. Since the 520-8 has a swept axle, do I just need the lower steering shaft and gear box out of the donor? 3. Anything I am missing or should this be a simple swap? Thanks in advance!
  7. How do you adjust the steering gear? My 606 will only turn right!? Can't turn left because it runs out of splines -Wes

    C195 Steering

I purchased a reduction steering gear for a 520H. I plan to use it on my C195. Does anyone have tips for replacing? Is it an even swap? Also, will the 195 wheels fit the 520H spindles? Appreciate any thoughts. Thank you Edwroy

    GT-14 Steering

Recently my steering went out on my GT-14 I can't find in the manual how the steering is suppose to be attached. (I'm also sorry I don't know the correct terms.) I have attached pictures to show what I'm talking about. IMG_3113.jpg IMG_3114.jpg
  10. The lower steering bracket has broken on my 1993 WH 310-8. I hit a tree while turning and the left ear that attaches to the frame has sheered off. The local Toro dealer wanted $97 including shipping. A guy at work has offered to weld it for me. Will remove and try to weld it. Not sure if it is cast iron or steel. Any advise? Anyone else have this issue ever? I'll post an update next week to let people know how it turns out.
  11. I need some confirmation from some experts please! The quick background is that my 1975 B-80 has had "slop" in the steering for some time, jumping teeth any time you attempted to turn the wheel when stopped or slowly moving. The gear teeth on both the upper and lower shaft were worn, but the lower was worse and when I found one at a good price on eBay I finally decided to do something about it, After a lot of cursing, I finally got the old one out, but when I went to install the new shaft it would not fit. A comparison of the two parts shows the new part to be at least 2" longer. So my question is, am I correct in assuming that the lower steering shafts remained constant for all four years the B-80 was built? I ask because the shaft was sold specifically as a B-80 part. I haven't contacted the seller yet and I have no reason to expect any difficulties returning the part, but before I claim the part was misidentified, I'd like to make sure I know what the heck I'm talking about. Also, while you can't see it very well in the photo, the shaft from my tractor (the shorter one) has three holes below the gear teeth, the new one does not. Can anyone with a B-80 confirm their's does/doesn't have the holes? Any input would be appreciated!
  12. I've just purchased my 1st wheel horse, it's a '68 commando 8. The first thing I had to do was rebuild the motor because a ring had broken on the piston and was hammering on the the head. The transmission seems in good shape, all the gears work and she drives smooth. With that done now it's time to work on the front end steering problems. The tie rods are worn pretty bad, the tires toe out at the bottom quite a bit, and the spindles rock back and forth in the front axle. So my question is what is the best way to fix all these issues? Would changing the tie rods be enough to get the wheels to stand up straight again? Would changing the whole front end components be a better solution? And if that the case what other models would be compatible with the commando 8? In my searches It's hard to find much for this model. I'll take any and all advice all you experts at rebuilding the machines can come up with, Thanks. The rest of the tractor is in real good shape, someone repainted it and painted over the decals, but you can still read what they said. I'll probably leave it like it is for now. I may want add either a snow thrower or a dozer blade to it after making sure the rest of the tractor is in good shape.
