I do however enjoy the abnormal left tine on the daytime picture!

The cameras are all my uncle’s, but his SD card with 917 pictures in 15 days of battery life had quite a few good pictures from July.  He’s going through to put them on his ‘puter to send them over to me.  I saw a good few does this morning letting the chickens out.  I promptly went back to the house for some longer lookers to view them through.  I can only see through my little trail and am considering trimming up the trees to about 8 or 10 feet.  I can’t think of reasons not to, other than if I can see them, they can see me from the house.

@Pullstart   Kevin, please! please! please! replace the ladder to your deer stand with a metal one.  I had a good friend take a bad fall from a wooden deer stand ladder a few years ago. They don't make a bandaid large enough to fix a fall from a deer stand.

@ronwh that is a great idea!  I won’t allow anyone to get in that stand but me and I used railroad spikes to anchor the thing… but do realize it should be upgraded.  Something that is at a ladder angle like 75 degrees or so would be wonderful too.  I also have to utilize branches and climbing pegs once I get near the top, a transition that is slippery on occasion.

@Ed Kennell @WHX?? and other avid hunters, my stand is about 200 yards from the house.  I sit and shoot away from home FYI.  Thoughts on clearing the under branches from the yard to the field for better viewing while not hunting?

Why not,  It's more fun to watch from the comfort of a recliner than to sit in an uncomfortable tree stand.      The deer do follow a cleared path...they may end up in your yard.

Safety issues:

I only hunt from tree stands when in developed areas.     It is so much safer when shooting from an elevated position.   Visibility is better, angle to the ground lowers a chance of ricochet,

less chance of you being shot when stationary,  game is usually undisturbed and offering better humane shots.

These may be the best we’ve seen on our property!  Hopefully that water feature will pay off too!

I figured out that the daytime picture, the funky looking tine is a picture spoof.  It’s the front fork in the background and the G1 in the foreground.  I thought it was a squiggly G1!

I think I’ve got some big time shooters out there this year, and a spike for @WHX?? to chew on too!

This’ll be my first out of state hunt, this November we are heading to MO for a gun hunt.  Mark Pierce is the land manager. He has a pretty stout buck growth record, having a deer farm in FL with the #1 breeder buck in the nation or world at one point.  Now he manages private unfenced land in MO with a minimum of 150”.

these are some of his pictures as of recent.

I have leased land in Md and Pa and WVa. for whitetail hunting.  The lands were not managed and were producing 120-130" bucks for me.

I have taken my best deer     140-150"    right here at home on private farms that are open to public hunting.    I know there are better deer on all these lands, but I only bow hunt and have a hard time passing a 120" deer.

I have taken some nice mulies in eastern Mt. on a 27 section (27 sq.mi.) ranch that was open to the public.     These were gun hunts.

Checked the cam today.      Still no bucks in the daylight.

The doe with her twins, almost as big as Mama.

A nice 5 point, but not a shooter.

A small 8 point....still needs to grow.

Nice!

My uncle brought a couple toys today.  We’ll get ‘em stuck up pretty soon, once I figure out how bad I messed up my shoulder.

Well, momma’s in the lead for the buck pole, she just hit a 6 point with her truck…

she was giggling, she can’t find ANY damage on the truck.  I’m heading out now with my buck knife.

All I can do with the condition of my shoulder.  Bloods dripping out, and it’s cool in the barn.  I’ll finish my work on Norman, then get to processing.  She was only going 40 when they collided, she saw it coming.  Cracked front license plate holder on the truck, I’m thankful it’s lifted 6” + 33” tires!

I’m also thankful I defrosted that big freezer a couple weeks ago!

As for deer damage, some stomach parts were broken but not near as bad as a gut shot.  His lungs were destroyed and I found a broken rib poking out and a broken left rear leg below the knee joint.  More to come once I start pulling hide.

I also did my due diligence and had her report the accident with the law, then I obtained a salvage kill tag.  Legal as I can be today!

I should likely save up a few pairs in the basement for years to come before they discontinue the line!

Just stumbled across this 2022 thread and IMHO, you ought to do just that.  It may prove not only be an inflation hedge, but a just being able to get them at all hedge.  How dry is your basement?

I normally do too.  I heard about this “skin a deer with a golf ball” trick and had to try it.  Plus the front legs seemed more solid for the time being to get it off the ground.
