1557948537_frontofkohler.jpg.70d92d4dc63e5c8264541a36a499db24.jpgI have a chance to buy this K181, spec # 30109. Was the S/G added at a later date, on the PTO side? If I could find the parts for the flywheel, could I turn it around to the flywheel side?

You would need a different starter generator because if you turn it around it would be spinning the wrong way.

Cubs and others ran the S/G off the pto side.  That would be counterclockwise rotation I am not sure how you would have to modify the Genny to get it to go clockwise

I think I recall @squonk mentioned that some can be rewired to work in the other direction without much difficulty. Probably depends on the model of S/G.

You have to change the field coils inside to change the clock wise direction to C-CW.  It's all about the field coils.  The guys are right, that is probably for a Cub Cadet.  There should be a CW or a C-CW stamped on the bottom plate.  That should have a CW.  Nothing wrong with the engine...they turn the same way whether they are Cub or WH.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

If I do end up with the motor, hopefully between @lincoln, @richmondred01, @76c12091520h, and possibly some others, I can find the parts to make it right. Even if I don't, it's OK, I really don't have a use for it right now, but it's hard to pass up for $25.

That starts me thinking... along the lines of what @Gregor said here... about gears.

If you could afford them...

But... I am more like this guy:

meaning and origin of the phrase 'to get one's knickers in a twist' | word histories

You realize that there is actually a website that literally talks about that...

Here is the website: https://technologystudent.com/gears1/pulley5.htm#:~:text=Sometimes it is necessary to,shown in the diagram above.

The gen is a DC motor. Polarity needs to be reversed (I. E. different coils) Also the brushes and holders are designed for a certain rotation. You would probably need different holders and flip the brushes.

Probably easier to get another S/G

Or, go to a show and buy one from a vender that is correct and sell the $25 one to a cub guy.  :handgestures-thumbupright:
