That was a unique ratrod for sure!

Made to look half road/half rail and it was towing a trailer made up as a livable caboose. 

 

The owner/builder is sitting to the right of the truck, behind it. They were super cool and very appreciative of the positive comments and questions.

                 '48 to '50       Ford COE and the Cyclops Eye light probably cam from a '46 or '47 Chevy truck.

What are the frame works for? Snow ploughs/blowers? Skips/dumpsters?

Following the "locomotive" motif, it had a box trailer modified on the outside to look like a train caboose but made up inside as a camper.

I wouldn't have thought it ran except that I saw it later driving down the street in Rockland!

That's it right there Norm. 

 

There were a few different brands of truck back from the 40s or 50s up into the 70s that specialized in super heavy duty wide plowing like back country roads with deep snow or airport runways.

Plow/sand/salt trucks with the dump bodies removed. The red one was for front and right wing, the blue was for front and dual wing plows. They guy said they'd do a lot of the 1 ½ lane roads in one pass with the blue one--saved a lot of time. They'd stop, back up a bit, and raise the left wing to let an oncoming car get by before resuming plowing.

Those two trucks , Walters on the left, International on the right, were built to specifically for V plow. The front wing tower is mounted and tilted more rearward for clearance for the big V plows.

Anyone remember the Bell Telephone service truck?

 

The craftsmanship of this wood cab and cargo body blew me away. More furniture than truck.

 

This little guy (after some reassurance from his mom--the noise of the tractors had frightened him--led the tractor parade on his battery-powered tractor. Yep, @ebinmaine and BBT are next in line.

 

The ingenuity of having a large dumping trailer actuated using a cable winched from the tractor intrigued me. Owner said it's non-functional as he doesn't trust the heavily rusted structural members.

Back in the seventies there were three small, municipal or town owned "Baby Bells" in Massachusetts, so I've read.

 

My Cinnamon Horse 1974 C160 was originally purchased by Granby telephone company for use mowing and maintaining their properties.

If that little dude had been allowed to really open up his electric tractor I would NOT have been able to keep up on Cinnamon Horse.

Trina could have on the Military Tribute Tractor because of its oversized engine pulley.

That truck and trailer combination was in operation up until 2 years ago. I've seen it demonstrated a number of times at that show. Absolutely fascinating.
