I’ve welded sheet metal before, but I don’t really know what gauge steel is need for a solid repair. I have 16 gauge on hand. Would something thicker be needed?

I would think your deck is thicker then that but my newest deck is 35 years old.

Use same gauge?  Have a set of calipers?  Measure it!

I just took a quick measurement of my '80 48" side discharge and came up with 0.125 WITH any 'crud' buildup.

I'm thinking that puts it at maybe 12 gauge, even possibly 11 gauge. (I seem to recall reading 11 gauge somewhere?)

That looks like a challenging repair.  If I were doing it and not worried too much about appearance, I would probably start by forming a piece of 1/4" rod to fit around the radius (the yellow line) and piecing together from there.

That would let you use two pieces and only have to 'roll' along one edge rather than try to form the whole piece.

The 1/4" rod would add back some of the structural rigidity.  Maybe even go to 3/8" ?

Unless you have fabricating skills far beyond mine!  :eusa-think:

found some close enough sheet metal and got the patch in. Thanks for the rod idea, should help hold it together for a few more years😅

also, just out of curiosity does anyone know anywhere I could get a seat for the 310? I’ve looked a tractor supply seats but the holes don’t look like they’d line up.

Well it looks like I'm out of luck. I have been looking for blades for my Lawn Ranger and having zero luck. I have tried Wheel Horse part numbers 7908, 7909. Toro part numbers 8777, and 53322 and no one has anything like this. I was thinking about doing a cut down, but finding right hand and left hand blades seems to be the problem.
Anyone making blades, constructing blades, got a work around, etc? My blades are usable, but that is about it.

48" Mower Deck - Side Discharge model # 78361 -- # 312000163. This mower is listed as being manufactured at the near end of Wheel Horse production for this deck in 2012. This mower is in very good condition used only one season on small yard. Well cared for and stored indoors. The deck has double right side pulley for optional bagger attachment. Any owner who cares for this mower will have a great investment of a classic WH deck to last decades. Cash pick up Poughkeepsie, NY area. No returns. Please send p.m if interested

      Gentlemen,

I’m having trouble with getting my deck to raise up and lock and I think it might have to do with the deck being incorrectly set up.

Based on the picture, does my mower deck look incorrectly positioned? That is, should the pivoting support bar be positioned above or below the wheel support pin?

      Brian
