I'm not at all familiar with Iphones, but in your aps do have something like files or downloads?  That may be where that parts manual might be  :confusion-shrug:

@rjg854… yes sir I do have that, and at sometime in the past 6 months I have downloaded and saved to my phone files from Redsquare on the Work Horse that I just refreshed.

At that time I must have figured out momentarily how to save the files to my phone for quick access, but it did not stick in my brain.
I was trained up writing stuff down and looking in a printed manual…

Thank you for the suggestion though…

Hey fellows and/ or ladies, got a few questions for you all who may have restored some WH decks…

First of all what re these bolts called ?…

I call them shoulder bolts, or carriage bolts… can you get them at McMaster-Carr ? They are the bolts for the gauge wheels.

Next group of pics (next 3)…are these collars or spacers supposed to be a tight fit it the bracket holes. These are the ones that go on the bolts that go from the brackets to the two long flat bars at the outside of the deck hanger on both sides. The long flat bars are slightly bent from the factory. One of them was shattered when I unbolted it.

Next 4 pics… I have some wear marks in the deck hanger bracket pieces… would you just apply weld to build up these areas, grind and file them down as good as you can, or not worry about them ? The wear is on the little post on the height adjustment lever, and the bracket it goes in, the round cross bar at the attach-a-magic, and the slots in the long, bent, outside bars.

They are called lawn mower wheel bolts, note the thin head.  Standard shoulder bolts can be used if you aren't concerned with keeping it original.

The broken hardware needs to be replaced, the wear that you show is not excessive so no need to weld.

I grease the wheels every time I mow and apply oil to all those wear spots from time to time.  Your wheels haven't seen grease since the last ice age.

When you say hardware, are you talking about all broken hardware ( I assume you are), or the sleeves that the bolts run through that hold the deck hangers to the brackets on the deck?

Also, are these sleeves hardened, and would you try to find ones made to size, or just buy some sleeves at the local hardware, and cut to length ?

@Jeff-C175,

When you used the POR15 Stop Rust Kit, did you use just what is in the kit , or did you apply a top coat over the black, whether it was a top coat of black or any other color ?

The sleeves are hard and you probably need to buy OEM.  The other items are cheap and I would just replace with hardware store stuff. Grade 5 fasteners would be best.

Just the kit, no topcoat.  Believe it or not, there's enough in that little can for two coats.

Thanks @lynnmor… hate to be asking what seems at times to be menial questions, but I know you fellows have probably been down these roads before, and I would rather get it as right as I can and hopefully it will last another 28 years.

Thanks @Jeff-C175… I will post a pic of the ingredients on each bottle of stuff… was it you that was asking for that ?

… may have been another member on a different thread where I went totally off-topic and posted about the deck restoration by mistake on that thread…

Edit:

Just found the misplaced post…

It was @WHX?? wanting pics of the ingredients, and I misplaced my response on @TJ Salyers “Rebel the Raider 12” thread.

Anyways, I will post pics on this thread later today after I finish my Saturday chores…

Also @Jeff-C175 and @WHX?? ,

I am considering painting the top of the deck first… Rustoleum Regal Red…

if I have a little red overspray go under the edge of the deck, do you guys think that will affect the bonding on the 3 Step POR15  STOP RUST kit ?

WHX??

It might I would do the POR on the underside first. I don't think overspray would hurt the POR. If you did do the top first you could always sand  the over off.

When you do the kit follow the destructions to the tee and don't rush it.

Absolutely!

Hardest part is going to be keeping the acid etch wet as instructed.  Work in the shade if possible.

I too would do the bottom first.

WHX??

I have never used that kit Tim but it just appears to me the the cleaners might be similar to a tank sealer kit hence my inquiry as to what the elements in the cleaners and preps might be. Guessing they are not proprietary stuff but off the shelf chems that one can procure with out having to be bent over on the branded kit.

Thus being able to use it on other applications & restos. Trying to work the system here & do a doctorate thesis on it all!

I can't say exactly which one, but the "cleaner/degreaser" smells just like one of the common ones, perhaps "Zep" or whatever it is called.

The metal prep is most definitely phosphoric acid.  Smells like the exact same f4rts.

Nothing special or proprietary.

No, I was outdoors so figured didn't need one.  Indoors (which I don't think I would do this indoors) I probably would use... and not just the paper mask, I have one of the 3M that uses the round filter thingies.

I think it says to rinse the stuff off and the garden hose is what I used.

I had the deck upside down on a couple sawhorses.

I will be outdoors also… the thing with respirators is you use different cartridges based on the chemicals involved, and I don’t know how to determine which cartridges would suffice.

I will do the same-upside down on saw horses…

Nor do I, but I tried!

I found the 3M documentation to be nearly incomprehensible.  The chart they publish makes little sense to me.

I'm typically only interested in particulates so it's easy.

Followed the POR-15 Stop Rust Kit instructions to a “T”… hope it turns out good…

cleaned and degreased with the POR cleaner and degreaser… kept it wet for 20 minutes…rinsed, blow dried…first 3 pics…

then I treated the metal with POR-15 Metal Prep… kept it wet for 15 minutes…

next 4 pics… you can see where it turned the shiny metal kinda white… must have gotten a good etching…

Rinsed it and blow dried…

Then I got to painting (next 4 pics)…while the first coat gets tacky, I’ll install the new rubber hood latches that just came in for the Work Horse.

So for the last 5 to 6 months I have been working on getting my 1994 520H up to operating condition after buying it from a friends backyard a few years ago...now that I'm 99 percent done with the tractor I want/ have to get the 48 inch SD deck that came with it up to operating condition also.
As you can see by the pics I have a lot of work to do/ full restoration...I have a few questions before I get started...
      1. Do the two wheels on the back of the deck control the cutting height ?
      2. Where/ who is a good source for parts ?...I would like to go back with as much new parts as possible, but some of the pricier parts I will probably be willing to use used if my budget forces me to ( spindle are my main concern here).
As you may be able to see from the pics, the front center of the deck has been knocked back quite a ways ( looks like PO centered a concrete driveway/ sidewalk edge, or one stout survey corner stob.
Any suggestions about straightening the front edge would be greatly appreciated.
Also if any of you would have the center front wheel bracket on a junk deck that you would be willing to cut off and sell to me, it would be greatly appreciated.

I just noticed that my b80 (1975) deck is rusting out.  Is there a replacement deck that fits the B80.  Tractor is in great shape--had the engine replace several years ago.
