chev0545 236 #1 Posted April 25, 2021 have a hub that i can't get off.what's a good puller? thanks
ebinmaine 71,734 #2 Posted April 25, 2021 (edited) Believe it or not the Best puller is actually another hub. Do NOT use a 3 jaw. @953 nut has shared a pic or two of hub puller that's done with threaded rod and a jack. ebinmaine 71,734 #3 Posted April 25, 2021 Scroll down a bit in this thread and there's a few great puller ideas. I've put a few "search words" in it so I can find it when I need to.
peter lena 9,184 #4 Posted April 25, 2021 ebin , agree with you on the use of another hub , the most important thing of a long stuck part removal , is OVERWHEMING SOLID STRENGTH , when its hooked up correctly , its just a solid steady pull off , steering wheel removal is a good example of that . when that steering shaft is bouncing , you are going nowhere . when you brace it up to a wall or post , the mechanical pull is solid and smooth . learned from failure , pete
squonk 43,276 #5 Posted April 25, 2021 (edited) Homemade. 3/4" plate. 7/8"fine thread HD all thread and 3 HD 7/8" fine nuts. 5 7/16" fine bolts threaded into the hub with washers and nuts backing them up. Maxwell-8 4,367 #6 Posted April 25, 2021 And don't use the existing bolt-treads in the stuck hub (don't ask me how i know )
daveoman1966 3,837 #7 Posted April 25, 2021 This has never failed me... While you have it off, check the seal...good time to replace it too.

I assume you must have welded them together while they were lined up in the large pulling bolt/threaded rod? @Cee245. Cory here's one of the threads to see.
rmaynard 16,159 #13 Posted April 27 This is my hub puller that I built in 2010. The only thing I've changed is all the 3/8" hardware is now grade 8.

adsm08 2,928 #16 Posted April 27 (edited) I just pulled two hubs last week and used the setup shown in #9. Worked very well, but I had to get an old socket in underneath and grease everything good because there was too much friction and not enough screw. Of course you need to use a forcing screw and not the slide hammer or you will not do anything. Edited April 27 by adsm08

There is no fixing that other than replacing the axle. Ask me how I know...

ineedanother 1,656 #20 Posted May 1 This is about as simple and cheap as I could come up with. Trim the shoulder from a bad hub and bore the lug holes to accommodate some 4" bolts from McMaster's. Add a cheap puller from any auto parts outlet and I've pulled some pretty stubborn hubs with ease.
peter lena 9,184 #22 Posted May 2 @chev0545 what you want is a bearing separator hub puller , its center line pull , is overpowering to the hub , also like KROIL penetrant days out , gets it done , pete
