@c-series don couple Q's:

Is she regular full time or volunteer?

Rank?

How's her driving? Better than average I'm guessing with all the heavy equipment experience...

@SylvanLakeWH She’s a volunteer, like the human that she owns. She’s not an officer, she’s a black hat😂 that’s what we call non-officers in the fire service. Her driving is exceptional because of her always calm demeanor, which is helpful when the sh_ _’s hittin the fan. Thank you for asking, I’ll tell her!

I waited 40 years to get another Shepherd. Today my wife found her for me. She's 12 weeks old!

So, 6 months later.

...She's slightly larger. First pic, July. Second pic, January. She's now about 80lbs. Still a puppy of course but still growing. I think she needs a saddle.

Yeah, Lu would get up in the morning, stiff as all get out, she'd stretch for a few seconds, and then we'd open the door for her to go outside.  If she saw a deer she would haul a$$ after it, stiffness and bladder be damned.  If there was more than one, they'd run off in different directions and she'd start thinking she could catch ALL of them.  It was hilarious to watch, she was pretty quick but she never had a chance.

Penny is out French bulldog.  She is addicted to my rc trucks.  I have two dedicated to her.  She wakes me in the morning and goes and lays by it.

Anybody who's read this far, I appreciate your hanging with me here.  I didn't expect to write so much when I sat down to compose this post, but this one's going to hurt for a long time.

No question about it, they become family. Its clear she knew that she was loved. In time, you'll catch yourself laughing at a funny memory of her. It never stops hurting, but it does get a little easier over time.

The BBT and I refer to our black furry beast as "pillow princess" quite regularly.

It isn't like she's spoiled or anything.

This was of her own volition. No idea how she stacked them.

We weren't even around...

Friday Lucy had to drive a tractor trailer, dump trailer. This is something she hasn’t had to do in a long time, so she let me come with her.

After our last bulldog passed in September of 2021. I said no more dogs. She was the best dog we had ever had, fierce on varmints but could be trusted with baby chicks. 14064307_Mabel1.jpg.a6623b0ff0db94e5047c3349d82eb50e.jpg1028825807_MabelSwim.jpg.322f481af9aa1ad1b4b0232bbc0531cb.jpg26326918_MabelChicks.jpg.d8344d86fe9c396976ce8e0c864e1bef.jpg

Fast forward to April of 2024. My wife is busy starting her Master's degree, while working full time. We have a fish tank, a fish pond, chickens and a different bird and we thought why not work on house training a new puppy. Enter Flash our hopefully new rabbit dog. It has been quite the adventure so far.

So far so good with these two. The gentleman I acquired the bird from actually had my dog's brother from another litter so, so far it has been a smooth transition. I am still a general falconer, just finished up my 5th season. I have two more years to reach Master.

Tomorrow my wife & i have to put Lucy down.

After a short battle with cushing"s, then addison's disease, she is in renal failure.

The worst part of pet ownership.

Today I went to the store and left the back door open because it was so hot out. That way if the dogs wanted to go in and out they could. Got back and the coonhound is barking l like crazy. Saw my fox mound standing next to something. Got to them and there is a dead woodchuck laying there and blood all over my dog's face and neck. Had to take her 30 miles to Cornell University Companion Hospital Urgent Care. Turned out all she needed was a stitch in one of her ears. All the blood was from her shaking her head and rubbing her ear.Woodchuck weighed close to 20 lbs!

@HyperPete My condolences to you and your wife. It’s probably been said in this thread before but I’m going to say it again. Dogs will give you some of the happiest days of your life and one of the saddest days of your life. After my last dog died I didn’t want another dog. I was so emotionally exhausted I became physically exhausted as well. Even had to take off work. About 9 months later my wife and daughter wanted me to go “Look” at a Springer Spaniel puppy, well I’m sure you know how that went. Now I have a new best friend!  Her name is Lucy!
RIP to your Lucy Pete
