wheel spacers

Recommended Posts

Gregor

I am trying to find wheel spacers for my C-141. 5 / 4.5 x  3 1/8 center hole. 1 1/2 thick.  7/16 lug bolts. All I have found so far is 1/2 lug studs for a car. I would rather not drill out my new aluminum rear wheels to 1/2". Are there wheel spacers available specifically for garden tractors? Maybe even Wheel Horse garden tractors?

@ebinmaine mentioned some spacers he got recently that were originally intended for a Ford Ranger.  Working from memory, I think the earlier Rangers had 7/16 studs.

Well done Bill. You're right but mine came in with 1/2" studs.

They were two inch thick.

I do keep the information handy in my notes if you want it.

Did you drill out your rims?

Short answer. Yes.

Long answer.

I've done this on at least two sets of steel tractor rims.

I found that two or three out of the 10 holes didn't even need to be touched. The rest were clearly larger than 7/16 and really just needed to be shaved open a little.

I do realize my scenario is not exactly the same as yours.

If you have plenty of seat cone area for the lug nuts to sit I would have roughly zero concern about enlarging the holes.

I guess going from 7/16 to 1/2 isn't much. Maybe I am worrying about nothing again.  I don't have the new rims yet, so I can't answer about the seat area.

I'm not familiar with the aluminum rims in that small of a size but it's very possible you may even already have a 1/2" hole even though they call for a 7/16 lug

Just talked to Ed at Miller Tire. Seems these rims have no cone area at all, they are flat. He does not know lug, or bolt size.

TBH that's even better.

Someone talked earlier about making custom parts. Wheel spacers for a Wheel Horse might be a good part.

Now I can find 1.5 thick wheel spacers, 5 on 4.5 by 5 on 4..5, but only with a 2 3/4 center bore. Not enough. Suppose I could add a couple washers to bring them out a bit.

Not something I would advise doing.

You should really have as much flat to flat area there as you can for stability reasons.

If you're looking for 1.5 spacers and willing to add washers anyways you could go with the 2" thick ones I found a while ago and have the correct center hole.

Spacers are ordered. Too late to order tires and wheels from Ohio. Darn.  I hope I got everything right. Time will tell. For that much money, everything BETTER be right, or I am going to have to buy a tractor to fit the wheels !:D

Maybe metric 12mm stud slightly smaller than 1/2" ?

HC-150-545-641-1215-A1-2

Honda Accord 12mm stud 15/32"

I have not ordered the tires and wheels yet. After thinking about it, doing some measuring, I am beginning to wonder if 23X10.5X12 is going to be too wide. Might look dumb. Opinions?

Anyone possibly have pics?

By my calculations, they will stick out 5" beyond the fender/seat pan. 2" farther than now.

Opinions are like armpits....

Sorry. Had to....

But seriously, only you can answer that.

I personally really like a wide tractor.

Here's a couple threads with wide stance tractors.

This is a single page from my Charger hydro project.

It doesn't show the whole ride but you can see where the wide axle sets the tires.

Even better:

@pullstart 's thread....

Thanks. I think I will stick with the wider tires. If I don't like it, I will know better next time.

Ford ranger spacers... drilling rims to .5 inch is pretty much just shaving the edges of the stock hole.

You could always swap them out and save em for another build.

Now I am thinking taller. Maybe raise the fender pan.

Think jeep spacer will work 2. Just not sure the center bore hole on them probly the same.

Which Jeep?  A CJ may have larger center holes, though, I don't remember what the bolt circle on the CJ is.
