This trinket was in a box of VERY old tools I was given as a thank you for helping someone by looking at his tractor for a few minutes.

It was in with a bunch of sockets...

What say you??

Unfortunately no. Just an out of focus crumb.

Some sort of marking gauge, but for what?

At first glance it looked like one of those old razor blade scrapers... But no, not that.

This trinket

I wonder if it's assembled incorrectly?

What does it look like if you flip the two adjustable pieces over so that they stick out on either side of the marking pin instead of pointing toward the 'handle'?

In that way it could be used to ride along the edges of a piece of wood and score a straight line along the wood.

I wonder if "VG" is for "Vice Grip" ?  Have they been in business that long?  That thing is definitely ancient, 20s or 30s I would guess, possibly older.

This is an antique clapboard marking tool, if the tangs on yours were flipped over, it would be 'similar' in function:

Can you get a close up of this mark?

Trina and I had that thought as well.

Like maybe it put this way for storage?

I'll get more pics with it switched.

I can see how it could be used as a scoring tool of some sort.

I've searched the vg-1 and scoring/marking but not found anything similar.

Could be a scoring tool.

Nice 15-2 board in the background.

We play at least twice a week. I used to watch my grandparents play and learned as a kid. I'd forgotten most of it.

Trina has been playing so long she literally does not remember NOT knowing how to shuffle or play cribbage.
