12Horse Paladin 1,038 #1 Posted October 25, 2020 (edited) My life is kinda...messy...at the moment. But spent the last few wks north, up by my folks, just to...regroup. Did a lil 'tractoring' too. Hadda be sure the 'new' (stole from my 160) front tires n rims, which my Dad helped me mount, workedout, ya know, on the 312-8 my Dad gave me in '17 that started this whole adventure. Come spring, shes getting full tuneup/cleanedup, & a rear discharge deck mounted, I hope. Thinking im going to do the rims up in gloss black, just to be different, lol. For now, nice for trail rides... And Annie seems to like leading it, on her runs, lol. I love this tractor. peter lena 9,309 #3 Posted October 25, 2020 12 HORSE, NICE PICTURES, that paint looks like the perfect time to marvel mystery oil that finish . on a clean cloth rub down every painted surface, even engine tins , to stop rust and bring back that paint . rub it on till it " breaks the dull look " and rub down till dry . I have done this on my horses , and the lubrication feed to the paint brings it back . sorry if I changed your view , do what ever you want , pete
12Horse Paladin 1,038 #4 Posted October 25, 2020 @peter lena...no; I like your idea, ill give it a try, since I dont plan on doing a full repaint!😊👍🏼 Ty for the tip! @Pollack Pete...I wasnt happy to see it, either, lol. Though it does sorta make the woods look kinda pretty with the still falling leaves, I slways thought....
peter lena 9,309 #5 Posted October 25, 2020 12 horse, never meant it to be derogatory in any way, but I have typically seen a lot of things on horses that i know are a quick and simple fix. that mmo , rubdown till dry, really cuts thru the crud , and the original w/h paint recovers very well from doing that. hope you try it , let me know how you make out , pete
ebinmaine 72,988 #6 Posted October 25, 2020 I kinda like that black rims idea to match the hood front and seat. You may want to consider a satin type paint if your rim surface is a little rough from rust. It's a little more forgiving than a gloss. Keep the good mindset up and play with tractors.

But, I already bought some gloss black. Was going to strip the old paint. What'll be a huge help is to buy some sand n fill primer. Use that first. That will take some of the roughness out of the base.
