ebinmaine 80,765 #10152 Posted October 11 Today we went for a drive a couple hours north to look at 5 pieces of land. https://maps.app.goo.gl/ujErC4DzcvZ4o78u6?g_st=am Saw lots of beautiful scenery and in fall color peak too! We'll be requesting more info on two of the 5 pieces for sure. Possibly 3. After that we got the garden area path bridge set in place. That's in its own thread.
8ntruck 9,310 #10153 Posted October 11 We are in Wyoming, visiting my sister. Getting some good entertainment out of one of her cats and our dog. It is a mostly outdoor cat, but seems to enjoy sitting outside of one of the several patio doors in the house to aggrivate the dog. My sister's property is just over 30 acres of ridges and hills. Dog and I found ourselves on the far side of a 20 foot cliff on our walk today. The approach looked like it was going to be an easy down hill into the valley between the next ridge - until we walked up on the top of the cliff. Ended up following the top of the cliff until it shrank into nothing. Walked just under a mile. My Garmin claimed that I decended 120 feet, before climbing back to the house. 1
Achto 32,795 #10154 Posted October 12 Started some physical therapy today. Started out by turning the ends down on some 5/8" rod in order to make a new tie rod with replaceable ends for my 953. Changed the sediment bulb and gave it an oil change. Next I made a bracket so I can hang dumb bell weights on the front. Finished off by preparing some 7" x 5/8" round plate to use as my dumb bell weights. These weight about 6lbs each. I have enough room to hang 13 of these on the front. The 78lbs should help hold it down.
WHX?? 58,218 #10155 Posted October 12 Check my oil and air up the fronts is all I gotta do. Pullstart can put on the dual if he wants. I got those front wheel weights you wanna throw them on Dan.

WHX?? 58,218 #10157 Posted October 12 I got all coked up today ... the evaporator fan wires were brittle and cracked and a short waiting to happen. Unit bearing motors are not meant to be taken apart and this one was hardwired. I was up for the challenge and replaced the cable. Rewired the rest of the cooler while I was at it. I dated this thing around early 50s.

Ed Kennell 47,399 #10161 Posted Wednesday at 12:37 AM Spent the day with Mrs.K while she had a total knee replacement. They used the Mako Robotics System that uses a preop CT scan to create a 3D image that is used to program and guide the robot through the procedure. She was up and walking 3 hours after the surgery. So far all is well. 10
peter lena 10,076 #10162 Posted Wednesday at 03:44 PM @Ed Kennell had my knees done 20 years ago , 6 months apart , almost Chomical today , 3 days in hospital , then a week in a nursing home to learn how to walk , then home for rehab . learned the most using a roller stool , for pull / push engagement . MAKO has totally changed that , had a hip replaced , then home with visiting therapy , also on my lower spine fusion , my wifes thumb bone removal , was very long time consuming , months , helped when ever needed . also had a stroke in my eye , years back , watching the inside of your eye on a 4 ft screen , blood flow , muscle movement , was incredible , my fathers appendectomy , 1920,s looked like it was done with a shovel ! biggest issue today , ? FEAR to do anything , pete

8ntruck 9,310 #10165 Posted yesterday at 12:39 AM Man, we've got some bad ju ju going on in our Mo. location. Earlier this year, we had a sewer backup in the basement. Clearing that,we discovered a broken sewer pipe. Repairing the pipe required removing 1/2 of the deck. Next trip, I discovered that the air conditioner compressor had died - it is late enough in the year that this does not need immediate attention. This trip, the '72 Chevy truck does not start. 0 volts on the battery. Installed a new battery. Still no action with the key. Then it hits me. I found the driver's door unlatched and the vent windows open when I walked up to the truck - odd, I was pretty sure I had closed it up a month ago the last time I used it. Then I noticed some speaker wires hanging that didn't used to. A closer look revealed 4 wires with spade connectors hanging under the dash. Right behind the ignition switch. The engine cranked when I bumped 2 of them together. SOMEONE TRIED TO STEAL MY TRUCK! That truck does not start right up after sitting idle for a while. I know the starting procedure, so I'll bet the attempted thief cranked the battery dead and didn't get it started. I've got to wire the ignition switch back up. Then I'll move the truck next to the house and implement some things to make it harder to steal. Yup, I filed a police report. They won't be able to do anything, but they said they would increase patrols through our neighborhood. Description and plate number are in their records now. 1
Handy Don 17,490 #10166 Posted 11 hours ago Short version of long story. Some years ago we had our plain vanilla minivan stolen from in front of our house. Why? The thieves put it to use on a crime spree (using stolen license plates) robbing airbags and catalytic converters all over the NYC Bronx borough. With its nondescript appearance, the sliding door, and no rear seats, they could pull up next to a target vehicle, jump out, get the goods, jump back in, and be off surprisingly quickly. Some months later (after insurance had paid off). it was “recovered” because of bystanders calling police due to the 15 yo driver’s sideswiping several parked cars and crashing!

That's one thing about older vehicles most of them have quirks on start-up I know my '47 and '71 do. I dislike having to lock everything--and didn't use too-but now everything I can get inside is locked. Good to hear the idiots didn't make off with your '72. 8ntruck 9,310 #10168 Posted 4 hours ago (edited) I got into the ignition wiring on my old truck today. Whoever tried to jump it knew what they were doing. Proper connection of the 3 wires they pulled out of the wiring harness plug would have allowed the truck to be cranked and run. I've got to replace several of the Packard connectors. Auto Zone and the 2 O'Reilly stores in town don't stock them. Hopefully, the NAPA store can help - on Monday when they open. With @Beap52 talking about old vehicle starting quirks, I'm thinking of installing some engineered quirks with the thought that if the truck does not start quickly, the potential thief will give up and move on. Oh, you folks got any thoughts or comments on security cameras? Edited 4 hours ago by 8ntruck

How about crossing the start position on the ignition switch to the horn?

You could also do a DPST between the horn and the ignition coil. Cranking the engine wouldn't let it start, but it would blow the horn pretty good. 1
