What did you do today?

Treated myself to a Milwaukee M18 trim router today.  Needed a router to break edges in the Murphy bed i'm building.  Had the bits here in Mi. but my router is in Mo.

It is a neat little machine.  Capable, accurate depth adjustment.

The Murphy bed project is in the painting stage now.  Hopefully, it will go into final assembly tomorrow.

Tools are investments, not frivolous expenditures.  That’s what I tell myself and wifey, anyway.

They haven’t moved much. Definitely waiting. Hope to have them covered soon. Of course Skittles is enjoying her spot. IMG_7371.jpeg.5bf19a86d4a6b598ac10493c0c86c764.jpeg

Absolutely justifiably agreed.

Started mock up assembly and room dimensional checks on the Murphy bed project.  In order to allow a closet door to be opened when the bed is deployed, a set of bedside shelves need to be narrowed.  Got to come up with a workaround for an outlet as well.

This week's project at work.  Repairing a tube system blower fault.  Defective 4 position board. Tells the computer if the blower for the zone is in pressure or vacuum position or neutral. 20250708_115255.jpg.ed9cdba561a92ebba1b0c809a06c36d0.jpg

Infrared beam. The bent piece on the top of the arm passes through the beam. When it does the system knows what mode the blower valve is in. The round black thingy is a bearing that a slotted plate moves on back and forth and rubber discs on the plate seal off ports to the system. If you look close thru the plexiglass disc you can see a little black u shaped object that the beam shines thru.

I see the sensors ar 12, 3, 6, and 9. So it moves until it breaks the desired beam and then stops, yes?

What causes it to rotate?

That silver block is pinned to a 115v DC motor. If say you are sending a tube the computer moves the valve to " vacuum " then the station you are at opens a slide plate and the tube is sucked out of the station. There is a 4 port " turnaround distribution box downstream that the computer rotates pipes so the station you are sending the tube to is lined up with your station. More sensors tell the computer where the tube is and when it arrives at the turnaround, the blower switches to " pressure " and the tube is blown to the receiving station. When the tube arrives at the station, the pressure works against a closed slide plate slowing down the tube. A pressure relief opens and the pressure is dumped. Then the slide plate opens and the tube falls into the station bin without destroying everything in it's path! :helmet:

LOTS done today.

Started out going to pick up our new Horse Tugger.

20250607_101504.jpg.dced91045bc90c0417a144adbc77e3cb.jpg

7 x 16 Triple Crown brand. 5500 lb GVW. Payload is around 3800 lbs.

One of the mods I'm doing in this trailer is adding a nice front frame tool box.

Today I used two former pieces of bed frame angle iron to create a frame work for it.

Forgot "in process" pics but here's the after shot.

IMG_20250712_192729.jpg.d9ea579f4c059bd5f3fabb50762a4292.jpg

I'm also adding multiple tie down points.

Started messing about with that experiment today too.

I used a 3" forstner bit and two smaller paddle bits to create a pocket.

:text-yeahthat: looks good.

I got the Murphy bed assembeled and attached to the wall today.  Just a few little detail type things to do to it.  The mattress for it gets delivered Tuesday.

Next up on my list is the water pump impeller replacement on the pontoon.

We had a brief, but strong storm blow through last Thursday.  It left behind a few limbs and lots of sticks and leaves.  Have to run the lawn sweep around before I mow.  Probably be worth getting the chipper/shredder out to process the storm debris as well.

Every July the local Ossipee Valley Fair is held.

This is generally considered the start of "Fair Season" here in Maine.

The Ossipee Fair has been growing steadily every year.

They now have livestock participation from all over the Northeast USA.

The Fair runs for 4 days. The last being Sunday.

We always go Sunday because that's Car Show Day.

This year we got the grandkid.

Lots of fun in lots of places watching barrel racing,  horse pulling,  steer/oxen showing and all the dozens of booths.

Here's a few pics of particular vehicles from the show.

This here firetruck driving by caused an event that restored a little of my hope for the future of respect.

There's a boy about 10 setting up in the passenger seat.

That's me in the cowboy 🤠 hat and grey shirt.

As they passed I nodded at the little fella.

He "up-nodded" back out of reflex. Not because someone told him to.

That's a damn small signal that most folks wouldn't even notice.

That there young man is clearly being raised right.  💜

This is a very rare car that I'm not sure I've seen any kinda recently. I don't know if it's real or a clone. Either way. Really neat.

This truck I've seen many times.  It's a 63 if I recall. Straight Six with Offenhauser intake, headers, DUI Ignition. Neat rig.

This is a rare and valuable piece.

Plain Jane Car with dog dish hub caps and limited options.

And a 426 Hemi race engine topped off with a cross ram intake and dual four barrell carbs. WOW!!

This Corvair pickup has the side ramp for loading Wheelhorse tractors.

I dunno why else you'd own one.

Ran a couple gallons of petrol thru the Chevy 4 cylinder today…so relaxing! I never went over 1300 RPM’s “cruisin” and listening to the Loons

I took a picture for @rjg854:

PXL_20250714_003119804.jpg

This is the Murphy bed project.  Bought a hardware kit, then built the cabinet to the plans that came with the hardware.  I was breaking sharpish edges and doing the touch up painting this afternoon.  The cushions on the bed frame are for another project.  They are simulating the weight of the mattress- which is due to be delivered Tuesday.

I got the old MTH chipper/shredder out this evening and started grinding up the debris the recent storm left in the back yard.  About 1/2 way through the job, the chipper quit.  Like it was shut off.  A spritz of carb cleaner didn't produce any fire, so i'm thinking it lost spark for some reason.  Tired, hot, and sweaty, i took that as a sign that it was time to wrap things up for the day.

Nope.

Davis. Unified. Ignition.

Not sure of the whole history. Davis was at or among the first to create the GM HEI style distributors for other makes.

Nowadays there are dozens of imitators.

I am realizing that my tolerance for the humid 90’s is not what it was 20 years ago. I had to take a break today with some extra hydration, too.

Well, we left home, headed for Baton Rouge, LA. We are staying overnight in Shreveport in a KOA campground that we usually stay at. We're in our 1995 F250 (7.3L diesel), towing a 1987 Avion travel trailer. We make this trek twice each year.... at Easter, then in July. Each time, we are gone for two weeks.

The Dodge Daytona is wearing a set of Motor Wheel Mag 500s.  I belive that is the proper OEM wheel for that car.  Those wheels were likely made in the Lansing Michigan plant.  I started working there, fresh out of engineering school in 1978.  The Mag 500 was phasing outof production at that time.  It was a popular wheel.  We made versions for Chevy, Buick, Chrysler, AMC, and Ford.  Was made in 14" and 15" diameters with widths ranging from 6"(maybe - foggy memory) to 8".

Also interesting to note the lack fo counterbalance springs on the hood hinges of the Baracuda.  Part of the extreme weight saving on that car. I wonder if there are any aluminum body panels on that one.  Rule of thumb - 100 pound weight saving = about .1 second reduction in 1/4 mile elapsed time.

@ebinmaine what transmission was in that car - Torqueflite or 4 speed?
