Unconventional WheelHorse Delivery

It always amazes me what a positive difference painting the wheels makes. The 12 hp. models are one of my favorites. Good power and decent fuel economy and eight speeds to boot.

@Cvans    I would never have considered that when I was younger just strip it down and repaint , turn the clock to The RS boys who gave me the idea to clean the original paint preserve the Patina and repaint the wheels, what a great idea and I don't have to worry about scratching the paint like on everything else I own.

I agree. I have little to no painting skills so I leave mine “original with patina” and only paint the rims. It totally changes the look :handgestures-thumbupright:

Excellent find! What did it take to get it running? I'm assuming it didn't when you got it since it went for a ride. Painting the wheels definitely made a difference. I think I'm going to pull the trigger and do that to mine. What paint did you use, if you don't mind me asking?

What's the "proper lift mechanism" that Don is speaking of?

@ZXT    It was a running tractor when I bought It, was on the same street were I lived before moving to Maine and was connected by fields and easier to just pick it up and move it 10 houses away without going on the road or having to trailer it. I spent a lot of time prepping the rims to make them come out as they did. The paint is all rustoleum as follows,  Rusty metal primer # 7769830   Regal red # 7765  and  Canvas white #7789.  Don is talking about the lift mechanism under the rear seat with the cable on it that runs from the lift arm, sorry I don't know the technical name for it as I have never had a Tiller before and will probably sell it to someone who could put it to good use.   Thanks for your interest.

Just a tip for those considering painting wheels. Rather than masking the tires or breaking the beads, with a brush paint the sidewalls with brake fluid. If the fluid is wet when you paint it works better. Stuffs  good for the rubber and the over spray comes right off. Learned this in a body shop back in the 60's.

@Cvans     Thanks for the brake fluid tip, I ended up using the deck of cards inserted vertically between tire and rim not wanting to remove tires from rims as they are originals and in decent shape for their age.   Thanks again.

You may want to try out that tiller before selling it.   It was one of the best Wheel Horse implements  and it really makes your tractor  extra special!

Plus the veggies are a big benefit.

WHX??

What's that about the card trick Jim? It was in the cards these rims get painted. They say they come out nicer if you use all red ones!  Even the hardcore leave the patina MN boys say painting rims on a patina tractor is socially acceptable!

I don't see any offf white overspray on those cards are you messin with me. I looked at that C-120 in a barn for 20 plus years and the wheels always drove me nuts looking the way they did in the bucket of that Kubota. That 120 was used only to till a garden twice a year and the gas was never drained nor the battery ever on a tender and always started right up come April to turn that soil over, I wash, wax and constantly attend to those tractors and I have spent a small fortune on batterys over the past 30 years, go figure. Glad to see I am accepted with painted wheels.

Actually Jim painted the rims before the tires went on but the moron who mounted them got tired of watching the paint dry and nicked them up. Said moron can be pretty anal at times so they get touched up!

That always worried me about removing the tires, spend a lot of labor and then take them to someone who can't wait until 5 oclock to go home and wreck the nice finish. So what is the best way to end up happy when all is said and done ?

Paint em.

Mount m up.

Use em.

Touch m up.

Don't sweat it. Tractors are made to be worked.
