I bought this particular roll from Lincoln at A to Z tractor but I'm sure there's multiple places where you can get it.

 

We don't use ethanol in any of our machines but I've repaired a tractor or two for people that still do. This stuff is more ethanol resistant than rubber.

 

Also, I like the fact that I can see through it for diagnostic reasons.

 

Or, if I'm just being a dingbat and did not put fuel in the tractor. Not that that has ever happened before.

One of the interesting points about this tractor is that there were areas like the throttle linkage and carburetor which were rusted tight. But there are areas like the rear hitch pin that are completely free and moving.

Odd. .....

 

Well tonight I popped the rear hitch out and dumped the transmission fluid. So clean it was kind of a waste but I'd rather have the new stuff in there. Filter is/was a VERY aged AC Delco PF20.

Funny thing about hydros. Always seems the hitch is loose, as I've said before. They always seem to weep just a bit .. guess it's a perk in the long run. Seen way more bad hubs on hydros too ... buuut, the hubs are never rusted on either, now are they?

Yeah these are.....ummmm..... A little loose.

 

I'm hoping to slow down the wear process a little bit by using hubs with two set screws.

Been fiddling with the transmission pulley.
It was so crusty the belt was riding way too high and was faaaar worse on one side.
I took a cold chisel and knocked down the majority of the rust. Then some 40 grit sandpaper and smoothed it a bit more.
Sits nicely now.

Last night I cut a hole in the fuel tank shelf so I could install a metal tank.

Got that bolted in.

Just what you have on there now with roller chain.  Also some front weight.

Got the fender pan and it's bracket off the tractor. 

Drained the transmission.

Put the frame and transmission on blocks and removed the rear wheels/tires.

Note the hole through the axle. And the taper to the same axle. 

Wow...

 

The Rh side hub and axle are gouged out something awful.

 

 

All good. Part of the knowledge I had at purchase. 

I should have hubs and axles here in the parts department.

@Stepney came by for a visit today. One of the things he gave me a hand with was to get the transmission removed and split. 

 

Inside of it looks great other than the parking pawl being badly bent. 

 

Need to order some gaskets and a limited slip spring from @wheelhorseman Lowell and get it back together.

There will be a saddle. Not sure which one yet.

Suggestions on freeing up a sticky throttle cable?

I put it in ATF for the night. 

 

Also ordered a couple choke cables for this and the Raider.

I have saved several by cutting the bends off at the carb end, then work the wire out of the sheath and soak it in ATF.  Polish the wire, reinstall and rebend the carb end.

I've got one of those in my 5060 transmission that I swapped into my Commando.

 

Looks good so far, though that steel pan doesnt look very comfy

Eric I would check with LJ fluid power up in Michigan for all the O-rings and seals that she will need. Cost me around 45 bucks and well worth it! I have a donor trans sitting here if you need anything off at let me know. Looking forward to the day to have mine moving which now is hopefully towards fall.

That LSD ring looks heavier than the one in @stevasaurus’ video.  Is it my imagination or did they make it heavier?
