I installed kitchen appliances for 13 years and one manufacturer makes kitchenaid Maytag  Whirlpool . If you got 15 years out of it you did good . I’ve installed high end 

and low end and average life of one is about eight years. Bosch is real popular 

with some, id stay away from LG, no good 

What ever you get all I can suggest is keep you filter trap clean and run a shot of vinegar thru it now and then .

I have a kitchenaid myself and it’s 

about the quietest one I have used.

Asking friends and family for opinions, Bosch keeps being mentioned, so I’ve added them to the list to research.

Again on the Bosch keep the screen cleaned out. One more thing is measure

the opening of bottom of the counter to the floor. Bosch will fit at 34” Another thing too is has a new floor been put in since your your old dishwasher was put in. Height is critical!

Damn it  now safety concerns even with dishwashers.  Now I am not going to feel safe around mine worried that I may get shot in the behind by a knob of all things..

Kyle, If you can afford a Bosch I would highly recommend that brand, I am not a salesman but have been installing D/W for 43 years in the Plumbing Trade.I bought one for my last house in 2000 and the one in our current house in 2009, both still operate like they did when new and have never needed to have an appliance company come out for any repairs.If I remember correctly they were both in the range of 800.-1100. dollars each. When I started in the trade Kitchen Aid was the Cadillac of dishwashers and now I see a lot of Bosch out there,not to say Kitchen Aid is still not high quality.@The Tool Crib good call on the new floor and height comment,I have had to remove many of them by cutting the front legs of with a Sawzall and at times try and lift the counter top some to get the old one out and new one in. The Model # of the one I have now is SHE45M06UC/  50,not sure if this # is still valid.    Good luck on you purchase, or are paper plates sounding better?         Jim

Cas, This is a 460V 3 phase unit out of the 70's You could imagine when a heating element shorted single phasing the whole shebang. Parts were still available for the thing but for about 5 grand more they opted for a new machine.

My kitchen has a new floor. A floor jack and a 2x4 raises the counter a quarter inch and it slides right in!

put in a whirlpool about 8 years ago, replaced the g/e that was 25 years old , but getting very noisy. the whirlpool has been very good, with great cleaning and very quiet operation.. pete

There are some options on the height thing . Some models will fit in shorter openings which  doesn’t give you many choices. And hopefully you won’t have to go to the ada model at 31 1/2. They are all junk! Good luck and any questions feel free to pm me!

We just bought a Bosch 500-series last month using my military discount at Lowes. The promotion at the time was a free install as well. So far we have been extremely pleased with it. One of the features we were looking for was a positive latch on the door. In our previous house, we had remodeled the kitchen and installed GE Profile appliances. Terrible! The only good piece was the refrigerator - that was made by Samsung. The dishwasher had a gasket that was too large for the opening and I literally had to put my knee into it to keep it closed. One time I had to have a GE technician out for the microwave (blew the board just out of warranty!!!) and mentioned the door issue. He took his pocket knife out and cut the edge of the gasket off. That was the factory fix! Junk.

 

The Bosch is very quiet, so much so that they put a red light that shines on the floor to show that it is running. This is handy as our house has an open concept floor plan. It also doesn't use a heating coil to dry, saving energy. The directions mention not having the dishes  "washed" first as well. It can sense the soiled dishes and adjusts the length of the cycle. The.screen to clean is very accessible. It is the best one I have ever had in all of the homes I have owned

      We built our new house seven years ago and couldn't be happier with the Bosch dish washer. The only sounds you hear is the water going through the drain. One big plus is that you can put plastic items on the bottom rack because the heater won't melt them like most brands.

I don’t know how many sippy cup tops I’ve had to toss because they got knocked loose and onto the element, or close to it, and warped. 

Its a tad outside of what I wanted to spend, but with what I’m hearing from folks and reading on reviews, it sounds worth it. 

A buddy of mine got his on sale (500 series) for 750, so as we’re saving for it I’ll be scouting out sales.

We have had a Bosch  for ten years or more.   Works great.   No repairs to date (knock on wood)!  The stainless steel liner and the cage /innards configuration lets you put a lot of glasses, cups and dishes.   We don;t wash pans but do put all the silverware and cooking  utensils in it.  

 

The have many different models but a $700 to $900 range is what ours ran.

On the stainless rusting subject, remember there is 300 series and 400 series stainless. 300 series is non magnetic while 400 series is magnetic. All those low cost shiny stainless gass gris at the big box store are 400 series and will rust.  if you grind on 300 series stainless with a grinding wheel that was used on carbon steel it will cause rusting due to carbon being forced into the stainless pores.  if you have water with a high iron content I suspect you could see some rust "staining" on 300 series stainless.  

 

so take a magnet to the store with you, if it sticks it's 400 stainless.  

 

Regarding Home Depot's LG series, I had a new LG refrigerator a few years ago that I bought as a scratch & dent, so only a 90 day warranty.  The ice maker didn't work consistently and i called several appliance repair shops and no one would work on an LG.  I called Home Depot and they send some one out from a LG company 50 miles away.  He never could find the electrical diagram to match the Home Depo model number and gave up, told me to buy a new one!  No LG's for ,me

This one's close to that.

Never been a stellar washer of dishes.

NO dried foods or residual residue is removed.

But it was the least expensive one available when I bought it.
