Pullstart 62,149 #1 Posted August 7, 2018 Taking a “bathroom break” for a couple days, on account of good behavior I suppose. My German kid Jil is in town for 3 weeks and she hasn’t been on the buggy for a couple years, since the suspension and Subaru upgrades. Well, I thought I had a couple cracks to take care of, ends up after I took the side panels off and started looking around, I don’t know how the front end hasn’t broken off the car! Doing a bunch of repairs this week, along with reinforcement to transfer power and suspension shock through the chassis a little better. After all, the car was built for about 40 horsepower, now there’s about 165 ponies out back. Everywhere that has green tape, along with some other prepped areas, need repairs. We are also prepping for the replacement front seats, going from fiberglass molded seats to suspension seats and 5 point harnesses. It’s good to have help in the shop this week! 9 1
Pullstart 62,149 #2 Posted August 8, 2018 Oredered 2 sticks each of dom tubing yesterday through my father in law’s work, 1-1/2 .080 wall and 1-1/4 .065 wall. That should help get this thing a little more rigid!
Pullstart 62,149 #3 Posted August 8, 2018 Seats are gonna fit, but they are snug! Driver’s side is mounted, passenger side front mounts are in but I wanted to verify fit.
Pullstart 62,149 #4 Posted August 8, 2018 Three of the four main tubes for the seat mounts are in! I am mounting the rear of the tubes as close to the trailing arm mounts as possible to help transfer power through the chassis in a stronger way... or is the plan! I’m waiting on the tube order to come in to finish the 4th bar.

Sparky-(Admin) 21,060 #6 Posted August 8, 2018 That thing looks like a blast! Is that your shop? With a lift? Jealous 2
Pullstart 62,149 #7 Posted August 8, 2018 Yeah, we bought the place a year ago from my in laws. He builds race cars, so the shop is wired for machines and welders, heated, cooled nd a lift! 2
Pullstart 62,149 #8 Posted August 9, 2018 I think I have all the cracks welded... and now waiting for more tubing to come in. I found a rail online that I really like the basic front brace design, so I think I’ll do something similar. The yellow one is mine, the really nice one is not! Ours is a 10 ft by 16 foot Coleman tent. Our friends call it the Taj Mahal.
Pullstart 62,149 #14 Posted August 10, 2018 Sometimes I’d rather have it your way! Our neighbor at the campground is a salesman, and gave us an amazing deal, 500 over their cost and waived all the transport and prep fees too. Can’t shake a stick at the cost for what we got
Pullstart 62,149 #15 Posted August 14, 2018 Got the last seat mount tacked in today
Pullstart 62,149 #16 Posted August 15, 2018 Getting somewhere with the chassis brace... it’s not like the car I found, but the whole base design is different. This is a bit more common of a design, and it’ll work. I need go before show!
Pullstart 62,149 #17 Posted August 16, 2018 I think I’m getting the hang of this bendin’ and notchin’ thing. Tubes are tacked in, I have a couple other pieces to put in here and there, then I’ll suit up for long welding times.
Pullstart 62,149 #18 Posted August 17, 2018 Getting closer! To do: re-run throttle cable through brake line for sheathing mounts for 5 point harnesses weld in the cross tubes Behind the seats build a floor/bottom skid plate clean/prime/paint reassembly beat the snot outta the buggy (just to test it out, ya know)

Ya gotta break em in the way you're gonna drive em. Might not have been the best advice but it sure was worth a laugh or two over the years.

Pullstart 62,149 #23 Posted August 22, 2018 Maiden voyage, for both vehicles today! Not enough room in the buggy for the 5 of us, so Mrs. Pullstart will putz around in the truck while I flog the buggy.

Really, you’ve said that? You must be Irish-Ne’wenglish! I sure didn’t take it easy of the buggy, came home with most the coolant and some air still left in one of the tires! It rode great and there was almost zero traffic, a great family trip. There is work to do for it to efficiently handle the power, but it feels good to give it a FLOGGING and it came home intact.
