@ohiofarmer your lift makes me wonder if a guy could make an engine hoist adapted to be a tractor lift…

t wouldn’t start) fired up tonight for the first time since about this time in 2020 when the @PeacemakerJack clan was here visiting!  It just needed a good spark plug.  I sure do miss that mohawk…

This afternoon I was able to button up the RM-366 deck for the third (charmed) time.

I'd already replaced the bent cross-shaft and re-re-balanced the blades, but found I had too much face-to-spur gear lash when the face gears were fully seated on the cross shaft. A bunch of fiddling and feeler-gauging showed I needed to move the face gears apart (i.e. toward the spurs) by about .06" to fully remove the gear lash. @ri702bill suggested leaving about .01" or so for grease and thermal expansion. (Note: the cross shaft not being locked in place, the .06" could be added to one end of the shaft.)

I was about to buy a ⅝" ID shim washer set from McMaster but thought "heck, give the Ace Hardware Hillman drawers a try", right?

Bingo. 50¢ and only needed a notch filed to clear the woodruff key. It's now between the back of one face gear and the step on the shaft that seats the gear.

Vastly reduced noise and vibration. 

Also added a 4" cove base flap to the rear discharge using the four pre-existing holes on the rear skirt of the deck.

Get ready, grass, we're coming for you!

Hood is on and finally was able to mow the whole lawn for the first time with the 854 and RM-366.

It does a good job and with the plastic flap on the back of the deck, the rear of the tractor is staying pretty clean. Some cuttings fly out the front on the sparser sections.

 

Last week I realized the throttle pull wasn't holding at full operating revs. The black plastic handle was spinning on the shaft preventing the twist lock from full engaging. Drilled two small holes through the stem of the knob and the shaft and then super-glued cut-off finishing nails in the holes. Problem solved.

Welded up a caution light / rear LED light tower for my 314-8. Just need to paint it and finish connecting the wires tomorrow and be good to go. Should definitely help snowblowing / plowing.

I mean in maine we get 1 snow storm and before can finish moving that snow another one is already dumping more on us. So yes pretty good odds I'll be in a blizzard and just want to be found and not lost

I have a dozer blade and a mid mount scraper blade. They may never touch snow…

Lucky, 1 to 2 inches up here people are still out riding their motorcycles haha . Seriously tho there is a guy in my town who rides his year round snow storm or downpour .

Consider calling A-to-Z for a solid used one along with the kit to rebuild it.

If your tractor is of the rear tank variety it would be worth a thought to change over to electric.

I don't buy much from Lincoln because I have most of the parts I need already... But...

I don't ever use his website. 

 

I use the old fashioned phone with voice method. 

It's a bit odd, I know...

 

Lincoln is a good fella and VERY busy. Been times I've gotten things from him that weren't catalogued online yet.

Lincoln is so busy during spring/summer/fall that he cannot keep the website current--inventory goes in and out quickly.

I second the suggestion of calling, that's what I've done. It speeds things knowing exactly what you want, and following up with an email. For example, on the fuel pump: engine size? lever or vacuum? fuel inlet on flywheel side or PTO side? Any fittings needed?
