I used JB Weld on mine. All of mine were also loose. Can't answer your ? about the broken magnet, but make sure you put them back in the correct orientation. North to South, North to South, North to South, etc.  I really don't think the missing 1/2" piece would bother a lot, but I don't really know.

I guess I can compensate for the missing chunk in the spacing between the magnets to keep balance somewhat equal...or glue the piece in with the appropiate magnet?

I'm not sure that's a good idea. I think it's possible the large chunk of that magnet will have it's own polarity, as will the small chunk. Someone who knows more about it needs to chime in. @Tractorheadmaybe?

I'm not exactly an engine scientist but I'd think that keeping the magnet formation to original is more than a little important. 

Changing either the magnet setup or not getting the balance just right is likely not going to be a good idea. 

Remember there's an exponential difference between static weight and dynamic weight.

It's just possible mating the 2 pieces back together again,and gluing them in place, might restore polarity to the whole magnet.

 

DON'T glue the 2 pieces to each other.

Hold the 2 pieces together the best you can, without gluing. Using another magnet, see if the good magnet reacts the same way to both ends of the broken magnet. Attracts?  Repels?  I would try more than 1 good magnet.

Yeah, good luck with that. You buy the flywheel, not just the magnets. Unless someone has some old ones that they KNOW are the correct ones.

Lincoln at A to Z Tractor may be able to set you up with a new (used) flywheel for the same money. I have bought a couple flywheels from him.

You have the flywheel off, you may as well check the stator. Skip to 10:13 in video.

Checking stator

If you HAVE to remove the stator, DON"T ! They are steel screws going into aluminum. They don't really come out well. I broke 2 of them. Was able to fix one.

Checked the stator...not sure where to set the meter...seems to be good??  Maybe have the ohms of resistance wrong?

yes.  Also touch  your meter leads together (without stator), and record that reading.

My meter set on 200 ohms. Leads together .20   checking stator .30   .30-.20=.10  Within spec  Spec is .064 - . 2

 

You are set on 2 mega ohms? Not sure how you are even getting a reading.   But electronics is not my strong suit. AT ALL !

I am missing an entire magnet !!!! Local Dealer has a few he can give me to fill in the gap. I will be sure to use the opoposite polarity
