when I look at it and all it's battle scars ,

Brings up a point Sarge, watching a dog show once and they said when judging if the dog has scars they cannot count against if they are "honorable" Does that hold true for horses?? Not if the guy says "hold my beer and watch this", or if they were owner inflicted! :)

A previous owner of one of my 953s must have broken the steering arm and couldn't find another so he did this.

Some weird/questionable looking stuff here.  I also work on old farm tractors.  I have become more tolerant and understanding over the years.  My farmall m is older than I am 1944.  Over the years some strange things have happened to her but she still works.  farming is not easy and when your tractor conks out and there is hay to pick up before it rains you do what you have to do to get her back to work.  sometimes it fails quickly and gets redone...sometimes the fix last for many many years..can't argue with success.

Amish wheel horse?  Really, do Amish people own wheel horses? I've seen John Deere tractors with all steel wheels on them. Wheel Horse with steel wheels?

And there have been several steel wheel versions posted around here before... No idea if any Amish influence or just because.....

I have one to add here . I picked up this # # four today on CL for a little more than scrap. It has a surprisingly good set of Town&Countrys and the front wheels which look to be the longer hubs for my Suburban. The former owner found a carpenters solution to mounting a different engine.
