mmmmmdonuts 274 #1 Posted April 8, 2017 I have a 6x10 utility trailer that just has 4 welded tie downs in the corner and it has 2 foot high sides that are built using 2x2 tubing. I bought 4 sets of 5' e track and I was wondering the best way to install it. My initial thought was to run 2 sections right along each of the long sides right next to the wall. Am I better of running them more towards the center say a foot or two off the wall? I was thinking about adding some d ring tie downs to the top rail ( either weld or bolt on). Do you think that would be strong enough to use as a tie down point? Any other tie down ideas? I use the trailer as a general purpose, for yard material, tractors, docks, and lately mostly furniture hauling it seems. Thank you.
WHX?? 52,181 #2 Posted April 9, 2017 I woud run them close to the sides, about 8-10 inches or even closer which is ideal for horse hauling. You use tiedowns to wrap around the wheels and can get smaller tractors side by side. this may or may not be ideal for hauling other stuff tho. Don't have pics of tractors in it but @Shynon might. You can also get the recessed tie downs that you can litter the floor with and never be short of a tie point.
Shynon 7,485 #3 Posted April 9, 2017 I think I put mine 6" from the sides. Use rings that go into the e track then ratchet the downs
ericj 1,579 #4 Posted April 9, 2017 I don't have pictures of my enclosed but I put mine closer to the center of the tractors and use 2 tie downs and criss cross them front to back under the tractor, tied to the frame. I do like the idea of strapping over the tire. what happens when you haul a tractor with a deck on, and have to keep it further away from the sides. with them in the center I can still strap the the front and rear axles. I would not want E-track on the floor of any trailer that I would be hauling dirt , mulch, or anything loose like that, that could get down inside the E-track. I might consider using more smaller D rings up and down the bed. I have a 2016 Appalachian 20 foot landscape trailer, I can haul 8 tractors on it. I have been just taking 1 strap per tractor to the side rails to tie them down. I've been considering adding the smaller D rings down the center or under the tractors, but haven't figured out where I want them to best serve my needs. I taking a wait and see what and where I need them eric j
mmmmmdonuts 274 #5 Posted April 11, 2017 Thanks for the photos and ideas. I plan on putting it close to the side as possible then, and adding maybe some recessed d-rings down the center in strategic locations. The way I see things is you can never have too many tie downs in my opinion. Has anyone ever put eye bolts or d rings on a the top of rail of a landscape trailer? Was thinking for holding tarps or then if I had a really tall object near the side a place to hook it.

If we do haul one it will be in alone. If you are going to haul dirt or what not with e track put down a cheapy tarp first ..... will make cleanup easier. You could do eyebolts for on the top or side uprights, get stainless so they won't rust.
