Alright. Carb cleaned up nicely with a dip in the GUNK dip tank. Choke plate tapped back into shape, drilled out the brass nubs and cleaned up the threads with a 4-40 tap. Best of all, I had two tiny ball bearings from an old Marbles tang aperature sight. So the detente is back in place and everything looks good. However, I won't get the gasket kit until tomorrow. Also, the engine needs a serious degreasing. I think all of the gaskets must be shot. I am hoping that after I clean all the linkage parts with the governor and get a new throttle cable that it will all work more smoothly. But that will be two weeks, because I have to go to SF next weekend.

It will take paint off Jack, yes Walbro is a brand of carbs you might see out there, I personally never had serious issues with them ...except for on weed wackers.

Thanks for those links Dick...:handgestures-thumbupright: might come in handy in the shop!

You'll have to send Fat Jack a link to your videos now MWR!

Carb cleaned and the engine back together. Unfortunately, I broke the governor ROD connector and have to get a new one. But the engine started and idled well.

i also need a new shut off valve.

i concerned about the electronics. The pto doesn't disengage, the lights don't work and there is at least on broken connection out of the rectifier. And I need a new ignition switch. I think I am going to have to retire it all. I am worried some connectors will break that can't be repaired.

If the PTO is a Warner electric clutch, it has to: (1) have voltage to it,  and (2) be solidly grounded, or it won't function.

Also low voltage from a failing rectifier spade or wire which is supplying insufficient voltage to charge the battery, can lead to an inoperable PTO clutch.

Ask me how I know.

I had no idea why my Warner unit wouldn't work suddenly until I found a mostly burned off rectifier spade.

New rectifier, new connectors, problem solved.

Test the clutch directly off a fully charge battery with a jumper wire. Make sure the body is well grounded. If the clutch "clicks" and moves, it works.

Make sure a newly installed rectifier is well grounded also, or it won't do its job of charging the battery.

I finally broke something serious on my GT14 the Lift arm that is attach (by chain) to the plow snapped off at the receiver arm top which is attached to the Hydro cylinder on the bottom. It appears the broken arm was welded there (see pics) my big question is how do get the "H" arm which is mounted on each side of the tractor by the steel plates the go up from the tractor frame out. I took off the four mounting bolts for it but it is tightly fit in aforementioned side plates I can move it up and down but cannot get it out. Is it relatively easy to remove one of the side plates and if yes which side is the easiest the pedal side left side (from the back) or the right side (from the back). Has anyone from the square experienced this problem, does anyone have this lift assembly. Any and all comments welcomed. p.s. I have used this beast for 10 years with zero major issues guess the stress of the lifting finally got to the arm which obviously is under tremendous pressure......Rob

Hi Guys, got a K321 14HP Kohler in house with all the electrical components removed. I cleaned and aligned the points, added a 12v (resistor coil) positive 12V battery feed to positive terminal, ran a line from the negative side of the coil to the points. I know I have to add a condenser also to the negative side. My question is does location of the condenser matter i.e. next to the coil or is closer to the points better. Thanks Rob

      Hello Everyone,

The information here has been invaluable as far as getting this old wheel horse I purchased back in service. Some parts home made, the motor generator is ripped off a 2013 Yamaha, some salvaged parts.

I bought this little bastard some months ago, it had to be dug out of the previous owners yard and lifted with a backhoe. It had not ran in about 40 years.

      Thanks for taking a look.

I was looking around on ebay and noticed that hydraulic actuators from John Deere 312, 317, etc models appear to be Identical to a Gt14 or d series lift cylinder. My question is would a new cylinder from ebay be able to replace one that is on a gt14 or d series?

Images below of cylinders to show similaritys.
