Ryan--with that rear end, it will take the torture of plowing and snowblowing with ease! I'm really glad to have met you. You thank me now for helping hook you in this hobby, hopefully you'll be saying the same thing down the road. I swear to you, it is addictive for sure. However, you meet some great people in this hobby and the "side effects" are a smaller checking account unless you determine to do a little buying AND selling, and a great stable of horses that you don't have to brush, feed, and shovel behind everyday!!!! What's not to like! There are many hobbies that have detrimental associated issues. Other than mentioned, I can't think of much else in this one! Glad to have you on board for sure, with a gear head mindset like you have and a desire to learn, you were made for this! Steve--that thing is a beaut for sure!

WHX?? 51,690 #29 Posted October 17, 2016 (edited) Plans are Ryan is to borrow the fuel pump on the K241 10HP on the shelf and see if that's the issue. If is it there are resources in vendors on where to get a kit. Check the belts right away to see what kind of shape they are in, Will let you know about the battery size tonite, I just got one for the 1257 at FF. I think we are gonna run 10w30 in the motor per the Kohler manual for winter duty. Edited October 17, 2016 by WHX8
stevasaurus 23,274 #30 Posted October 17, 2016 Looks like the blower is a 1969, but read Garry's notes here.
WHX?? 51,690 #31 Posted October 17, 2016 I kinda thought the blower was a "69 as well Steve...someone must have liked this horse so much decided to get a blower a year later!! Thanks for that manual Steve I missed that one
stevasaurus 23,274 #32 Posted October 17, 2016 (edited) Jim, take the large screw on top of the carb...turn it in until it gently bottoms out counting the turns as you go. (I think it should be about 2 1/2 turns) Back that screw all the way out and clean it with carb cleaner...spray some down the shaft also. The screw has a couple of small holes near the end...take a small wire and poke through the holes and use carb clean again. Put screw back in until it bottoms out and then turn out to where it was before. Start it up, and when warm, adjust screw one way or the other to get the best idle. See if that helps. stevasaurus 23,274 #35 Posted October 17, 2016 You might be right about the late 1968 model Jim. The 1968 Raider 12 model 1-6231 (according to the sheet) should have the Kohler K301S with Spec #4712B. I think the engine in Ryan's is original with the Spec #47147B. This engine came on the 1968 Electro 12. It could be they ran out or the #4712B's and had the #47147B instead. Maybe it was ordered that way. If you look at the Transmission Usage sheet, they also made a 1968 Raider 12 Model #1-6241. This is the sister that was made in Belgium and it came with the Kohler K301S Spec #47147C. Just thought I would throw out some issues to chew on before somebody else spotted it. Not sure what it all means, but you just gotta love Wheel Horse. Maybe @gwest_ca might have some ideas on all of this.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,441 #36 Posted October 17, 2016 Notice a Charger 12 and it's serial has been added to this list of late production Raider 12 serials that used the 47147b spec number. Just an effort to determine when the change in engines was made. Further down one shows up with a starter/generator but maybe it was repowered. This service bulletin dated March 1968 lists both spec numbers Garry

Who would figure that a higher S/N would turn up with a start/gen. Yes a dealer warranty repower possibly? One wouldn't think they would switch back to S/G motors on an assembly line for a short duration on later S/N's to use up leftovers?? Note that on that service note #93 it's dated March 1968 so that must mean they went to Bendix motors early in the year? I thought it was the last 1/4 of '68??

Rp.wh 1,103 #46 Posted October 24, 2016 Today was the day the raider lived again! . After sitting for 2 years it runs and drives like new. Have to give @WHX8 "jim" a huge thank you for helping me tare the carb apart and clean it real good, drained gas and started. Did oil change also did transmission fluid, which also wasn't bad neither. Had to change chain on the blower being it was stretched but also found out one of the bearings needs to be changed for the blower so I'll have to find that, but everything works as should, can't wait to get this horse out and have some fun!!!
PeacemakerJack 10,743 #47 Posted October 24, 2016 Yea Ryan!!!! That is great--you got a good deal on that machine and I think it will be an excellent work horse for you for years to come... .
