D Series Question

Recommended Posts

tractorhogg

Every once in a while I see a D series tractor that has a notched slot in the forward reverse shifter, like a second postion. All my D10s have  simple arc, but some on other D series has what looks like a off shoot slot. Can anyone tell me about this? Thanks

1974 models had a different motion control linkage and no parking brake knob on the hood stand below the instrument panel. Pulling the motion control lever  into the lower (i believe) slot engaged the parking pawl. 1975 and newer used the knob below the IP...however WH had left over hood stands that had the forked slot and used them.  Some dealers blocked off the lower slot but no all did.  mine has the slot but moving the control lever there doesn't do anything.

a 1974 would not have had this knob

I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing, maybe, I was talking about the forked slot in the engagement lever on the side, but maybe you were too. I found this picture in the gallery that shows the forked slot in the forward reverse lever, none of my 4 d series have ever had that. Are talking about the same thing?

@tractorhogg  @pfrederi was saying that his picture shows the parking brake on the dash, whereas your picture shows the parking brake on the F/R motion controller.

I have a 1974 D-200 and it has the parking brake on the F/R motion control lever.

I reread his post and realize what he was trying to say. Lack of accurate nomenclature, or the knowledge of said nomenclature, sometimes reduces us to using descriptive words (thig-a-ma-jig) that may mean different things to different people. However I just don't see well and I think I read things right, when I actually do not. Thanks for helping affirm what he was trying to tell me

It would have been clearer if I also put in a picture of the motion control lever.  Went through my pics and I didn't have one.  My D200 is parked down in the barn for the winter and with my ruptured achilles tendon it is too far to hobble...:P
