Something off about this snow thrower?

I picked up this snow thrower on Craigslist. It's rough and needs to be gone through which I plan to start on soon, but something seemed a bit off . The plate that goes across the top is vertical. All of the pictures I've seen of these it looks to be angled forward. Taking a look at this one it doesn't look like someone bent it up to be vertical, or if they did, they did a very clean job of it. Anybody seen this before?

Someone took the time to bend it straight up, and did a nice clean job of it.

Thanks for the reply Mike! I don't know why anyone would do that - seems like it would block the snow coming out of the chute. Guess I'll do my best to bend it back down.

That shield is meant to scoop in snow thats deeper than the throat of the blower. The way its bent its more of a plow. I would try to get it back to where it should be.

Here's hoping the snow is deep enough this year to make it necessary!
