856 pulleys belt lubrication?

Evening, is it necessary to lube 856 pulleys and belts? If so with what and how often? All pulleys including S/G?

You don't lubricate belts, or the contacting surfaces of their pullies.

 

Belts need friction to move or be moved by a pulley. Lubrication removes friction. The result would be ruining your belts.

If you were thinking of the "Miracle in a Can" Belt Dressing Spray - don't use it. Do it right - belts run dry. The V surfaces on the pulleys should be free of paint & rust.

I believe the bearing are sealed so no lube there. The ones I have and had were all sealed. Now if your talking deck that is a different story.

        Is your belt squealing                       not sure where you are going with this question                    Don't think it would be a good idea.

And glaze. If a belt has been slipping it is not a bad idea to take some coarse sand paper and rough the surface up a bit.

Treat it like a red-headed stepchild! No, actually, he brings up an excellent point. Insufficient belt tension can lead to slipage & surface glazing...

I had this issue on my deck pullies last year. Even with sharp blades and new belts it was slipping in thick grass. I had to get in the single pulley with some 80 grit and bust the glaze off the surface.
