JCM 11,374 #1 Posted July 31 Making good progress on the 420. A LOT of hours into it at this point removing the paint on the sheet metal. If WH had used primer it may have come off a little easier ? on this series tractors.Letting things set up before reassembly. Hoping to have it somewhat ready for the September Meet & Greet. JCM 11,374 #10 Posted August 1 I'm a glutton for punishment. Born and brought up learning to do everything the hard way. @Brockport Bill No kidding. The pictures should show you. Kleen Strip Aircraft paint remover, 1 1/2'' and 3'' wire wheels on an 18 volt Milwaukee cordless, lots of different grades of sandpaper etc etc and a right shoulder that's just about had it. JCM 11,374 #15 Posted August 9 Thank you ,but I don't think this 420 will ever be as nice as @cleat 's resto's. I do put a lot of effort to bring the '' ROUGH 420'S '' back to a spot in WH history but, I just can't stand looking at the abused 420 and 520's that I have seen in pictures on this GREAT Red Square forum and try to do my part to ease the pain that has been inflicted on me, Seriously . With a single piece rim and correct lube I've never seen a front tire that didn't just slip right on. Interesting part was we tried to install the tires while the wheels were bolted together. NOT happening by hand and I'm a Bear with more than average leverage. We disassembled them and mulled over what to do. Once we figured out how to get a bolt started near the valve stem, they went together OK. Still quite a challenge to work around the 5 bolts AND keep the tube out from between the two wheel pieces. @JCM Absolutely happy to help out.
