squonk 47,442 #5 Posted 20 hours ago HA! Today was my last day too. Brought the last of my tools home. Took a gauge off our defunct steam fired Absorption chiller as a souvenir. We had a fire in 2015 and when we went to put the chiller on line the water in the pipes flashed to steam and the needle spun around in circles like in the cartoons. Hard to think I’m getting old enough that it’s even on the radar. Two years ago I felt like I’d never want to retire as I enjoy working way too much. But about that time my company went to a four day workweek and now the taste of freedom beckons. I still put in a ton of hours every week but condensing it into four really long days feels great when the three day weekend comes. squonk 47,442 #13 Posted 9 hours ago Going to be 68 in Feb. I retired in 2020 after 3 straight years of surgeries and then Covid. Went back to work 2 days a week in the fall of 2022 at the hospital I had been at for 14 years prior. rmaynard 17,440 #14 Posted 7 hours ago Congratulations on retirement. I retired in 2015 after lumbar spinal fusion surgery. After recovery, I thought that I might have the time to do things that we'd been putting off like travel, tractors and naps. Seems that when you are working you have a schedule. Friends and family knew when you worked and when you were off. However, when you retire, everyone thinks you are always available. Your time is never your own. Though I love to help my family, I also miss downtime where I don't have to answer to anyone. You have to learn how to say "no, today is mine". I’m working in Australia in a few weeks, be there almost a month.
