My father-in-law had a '69 GMC pickup that he put a hoist under the bed.  That was the handiest pickup I ever borrowed--actually he gave it to me to use to use as a young builder.  Firewood, little jag of gravel even junk was a piece of cake unloading.  

 

If you put a hoist under the new bed, you'll have lots and lots of friends!

I've considered that many times.  If the right parts showed up for next to nothing, I'd install a lift/dump/hoist.

Some excellent comments above. Thank you everyone. I'm posting a link here mostly for my own reference but obviously you're welcome to peruse it. It's a design for a bed made for a very heavy truck camper.

Drove the K- 20 locally for years while I worked on the rest of the truck. Got a lot of comments without the bed. POR on the frame etc. Have fun with it while working on it. GOOD LUCK with it EB.
