Beap52 2,290 #29 Posted Monday at 10:59 PM (edited) My father-in-law had a '69 GMC pickup that he put a hoist under the bed. That was the handiest pickup I ever borrowed--actually he gave it to me to use to use as a young builder. Firewood, little jag of gravel even junk was a piece of cake unloading. If you put a hoist under the new bed, you'll have lots and lots of friends! Just sayin' Edited Monday at 11:03 PM by Beap52 clarification

If the right parts showed up for next to nothing, I'd install a lift/dump/hoist.

If the truck bed was converted to a dump bed or a beaver tail bed that problem could be minimized.

ebinmaine 79,124 #36 Posted Tuesday at 09:56 AM Some excellent comments above. Thank you everyone. I'm posting a link here mostly for my own reference but obviously you're welcome to peruse it. It's a design for a bed made for a very heavy truck camper. https://www.truckcamperadventure.com/truck-mod-diy-wood-flatbed-deck-for-truck-campers/
