Hi all,  trouble finding a good 1623. Can get the bearings local. My question is can I use these pop rivets or get solid rivets and peen them over?

Thanks :USA:

Razorback

Hmmmmm….. that’s a good question. I think I would go the solid route to possibly be the strongest?

Also, you mentioned the bearings. Can you post the details for the bearing for future reference?

@gt14rider  regular reference to this  bearing issue , personally  always go for the WIDE  RUBBER SIDE SHIELDS , thats what you want ? unknown  grease in there , small flat pocket  screwdriver  or  small flat putty knife , easy removed with  no damage at all  , pop off  both sides , Walmart , lucas x-tra heavy duty  green chassis grease , wipe out  all original grease , carb cleaner aerosol , flushing , hand pack bearing , reinstall seals , lube is  550 deg flash point  , also polyurea  rated , so it stays  with the issue , done this in every related , pto driven  bearing , guess what ? NO WHYINING  BEARING NOISE , or related failures , @Razorback  , personally  love repetitive failures , track it down and  kill it  , make a change . mule  drive bearings also  re lubed , no belt squealing  , just  easy smooth  wind up , that  pto  lever  start up area is a GOLD MINE  , for  operational delight , heim joint end  swivel ,  pete

Mike Prodzinski in Minnesota has been rebuilding these #1623 pulleys for several years.  I had him redo several of mine.  Years ago i bought a bucket of them at ghe Big Show - about 1:3 were still useable.   Maybe he can give you some pointers on the rebuild!

I agree... I mill off the heads of the rivets and drive the body of the rivets out. Replace the sealed bearing with a new one. Buff the halves on a wire wheel before assembly. I use #5-40 Button head screws  - 1/4" or 5/15" long with a dab of blue Loctite on the threads and then the hexnut. This way, they are easily rebuildable later on instead of riveting. a light coat of Rusty metal Primer and a spritz of red - better than new...

@peter lena pete trying to get side shields off started this hole thing ,buggerd up shield, bearng was good, not any more.

@razorback I'm going to bearing distributors, called and they have them. So when I get some information I'll let you know. @ri702bill I'll see if I can get some 5-40 button head screws .

There is nothing in those pulleys that has a high level of accuracy. Just a stamping with a bearing in the middle.

I did the drill and bolt thing, just to time consuming. Now I take a grinder with a cut wheel and cut 6 slots. I started out using a chisel to bend the tabs but use the press to just push through the tabs.

Pop in the new bearing and bend the tabs over.

I have done at least a dozen with no problems.

Just another option from an old bush mechanic.

The pulley from Brian is really impressive. It's not stamped tin like the original
