ebinmaine 78,221 #1 Posted 6 hours ago Trina is looking for a refrigerator. Full-sized but smaller cubic foot. Decent quality. I don't know what features she wants, if any. What brand names should she focus on, or avoid? LG is out.
pfrederi 20,247 #2 Posted 6 hours ago Curious why no LG they get good ratings Got a new Whirlpool last year. Works fione but the ice maker makes a lot ...I mean a lot of sudden jarring noises...

Remember the days long ago and far away when we used to try to fix our stuff? Apparently LG has forgotten those days existed......
pfrederi 20,247 #4 Posted 5 hours ago I think they all have that attitude these days. These days if it is a compressor failure it is better to eat the loss and get a new one. I do not eleven know if individuls can even buy the refrigerant anymore.

That's the problem with the LG label. The service technicians around Northern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire have even stopped working on them.... JCM 11,091 #6 Posted 3 hours ago @pfrederi Do you have a water hammer arrestor 1/4'' compression coming from your cold water source to the inlet of the ice Maker by chance ? That you could add. I am assuming your water line is copper not plastic from source ? Back of fridge is usually plastic tubing nowadays.
squonk 46,085 #7 Posted 3 hours ago All are pretty much junk. Avoid anything fancy. We had a prehistoric Hotpoint that was as big as a small pick up. Worked great but with our energy audit they gave us a plain as can be LG. Going on 6 years. I had to build a platform for it to raise it up because unless you were 3 feet tall you couldn't see inside! And don't place a magnet on the outside near the magnetic light switch!

After the warranty is over 90% of the time it's cheaper to replace it. A service call to diagnose. Then order the part ( 2 weeks or more) Then another service call to install the $300 part. Then another service call to reconnect the plug that fell apart 2 days after the 2nd service call.

It isn't the water it is the thunking and crash as it ejects the cubes
SylvanLakeWH 31,054 #10 Posted 1 hour ago Walked into Lowe's 6 years ago, salesman asks my wife what she's looking for in a fridge. Mrs. Sylvan says: "no ice machine, no fancy knobs, no WiFi connection, or other crap. I don't want to text with my fridge...Just a fridge and freezer. Show me the brushed silver ones that have no extras." Salesman looks at me, pats my shoulder and says "you are one lucky man..." Yes I am!!! Says I... Not one issue on a basic Frigidaire...
JoeM 9,756 #11 Posted 56 minutes ago I have North of 2500 in a Samsung. (aka samsuck) made Ice for one year just after warranty stopped working, find out they have tons of issues. I have defrost the ice maker once a month to have ice. 5.6K members on facebook with same issue. https://www.facebook.com/groups/280704063879207 A lot of people said not to let them work on the ice maker because the fix causes other issue. I do like an ice maker but the next one is going to be pretty plain. This guy has some good ideas
Treepep 1,104 #12 Posted 53 minutes ago I have a magic chef brand in the garage. It is great. That said its old so idk. Smaller version with the freezer in the same door. That setup ruins frozen food. Fine for rocks for the slow down liquids.
oliver2-44 11,388 #13 Posted 41 minutes ago I have a Mohamed Ward freezer I bought in 1981 when we go Married. Basic freezer no defrost 45 years old and still runs great. I had an LG refg. Tech came out to work on and couldn’t find electrical schematic online for it. Said he return with info but never heard from him again. My 3 sons and I all have Samsung 5-10 years old. So far so good 😊
