WHX?? 54,240 #1 Posted 12 hours ago So we do a bit of horse trading here and safe to say most of us do the Pay Pal thing. @Easton Rich wants those chains I have in classifies and asked if I used Venmo which I have never heard of. Appears it's much like PP so I would guess it's just a matter of signing up and getting to know it? Not opposed to that as PP is jerking me around with charges. What is your favorite methods to send money and likes/dislikes. Is there any other little known ways of safely completing transactions?
oliver2-44 11,184 #2 Posted 12 hours ago My sons and I use Venmo. Probable for 4 to 5 years. Evilbay even accepts it now. 1
JoeM 9,503 #3 Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Uncle Jim, If it is someone here that is established and just a few bucks, around <$100 ish, I just send the part and ask for a check or money order to be sent in return. I have never / ever had an issue with a RS guy. Outside of that, I use PayPal and just pay the fees, expensive but does add a layer of protection. I am not sure is PayPal and Venmo siblings? I have a Venmo but have not used it. Just read this on the net but have never tried it PayPal and Venmo are now connected, allowing users to send money directly to each other using their phone numbers or email addresses, which started in November 2025. This integration simplifies the process for the combined 2 billion users of both platforms, eliminating previous workarounds for transferring funds. WHX?? 54,240 #4 Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Interesting Joe thanks. 46 minutes ago, JoeM said: around <$100 ish, I just send the part and ask for a check or money order to be sent in return. Makes sense. The fees I get charged are just a couple a bucks here couple ther. Guess I shouldn't be such a tight wad. What they did is tricked me into a business account so no more free friends n family. Worst part is I can't go back to a personal account or close it. Would have open a new account with another address. 46 minutes ago, JoeM said: have never / ever had an issue with a RS guy. Oh golly no... SylvanLakeWH 30,377 #6 Posted 5 hours ago Have PP, Venmo and Zelle. Use primarily Zelle, but have used all three with no issues or fees... 5 hours ago, JoeM said: I have never / ever had an issue with a RS guy. Well... uhm... er... Now about that $80 I owe you for the Brinley... honest I planted some pennies in @Pullstart's field. As soon as they grow I'll give you the first $80 off the top...
Treepep 1,028 #7 Posted 4 hours ago As we all know way to well stuff gets misdirected/lost possibly forever in the mail. That said I absolutely dislike all of the e pay nonsense. Its convenient I guess and immediate. Personally I can wait. Part of being an older human. I have sent members parts and/or checks. Never big money. You guys I can trust. We should set a meetup point when we have to take down the rising machines... Kidding/not kidding. Always trust yourself. You are probably right!
rmaynard 16,832 #8 Posted 4 hours ago I used to have a PayPal commercial account. I had to pay a fee. Now I'm back to a personal account and use PayPal friends. No fee. I also have Venmo and Zelle, but prefer the ease and reliability of PayPal. 2
Pullstart 68,726 #9 Posted 3 hours ago Plowing snow this season, and selling stuff on Marketplace, I’ve had to upgrade from sticks and stones. I have PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, and Venmo is by far the most popular. I even got a Venmo card, allowing me to use the balance people pay me as a debit card. That’s nice, because I can use it for all business purposes. Then when tax time comes around which I dread so much, I can at least grab the majority of my transactions right from electronic accounts. 2
Pullstart 68,726 #10 Posted 3 hours ago I’ll also say, that having e-pay options and local FB requests to plow, I’ve taken on many more customers and not needed to leave my truck. I plow, send a complete picture, they pay, I’m on the way. 3
CCW 1,463 #11 Posted 3 hours ago Only reason I opened a PP account was to pay RS dues. Have been using V for a couple of years on the personal level and it works fine after I set it up. Prefer V.

Called a plow guy. He digs him out, sends a pic and Get's paid with PP. Easy Peasy
JoeM 9,503 #13 Posted 3 hours ago A friend of mine had a cash only car wash. He installed card readers and quadrupled his business. He said it was well worth the expense. 2

PayPal sends me monthly statements, and a 1099-K at the end of the year. I find that Venmo likes to hold my money too long to be able to skim a little interest from it. I'm not in a hurry to get my money, so that's not a problem.

I guess the thing with PP is it's so universal. I don't think any of our vendors here or any other places we get tractor parts from use anything else, other than regular plastic. 1
squonk 45,259 #16 Posted 2 hours ago I used Zelle once to get money for something I sold. The buyer just transferred money from his account to mine. It's all thru the bank, no account #'s are shared.

nylyon-(Admin) 8,737 #20 Posted 1 hour ago 17 minutes ago, WHX?? said: Can you use other methods to pay dues here Coach @nylyon? You can use PayPal, check or money order or cash (but you shouldn’t send cash in the mail). These methods are automated in this software so when paying with PayPal the transaction is instant. Check, money order and cash are manual. I trust the supporters, when the check is in the mail and the supporter has run out I will approve the transaction prior to receiving the check. It would be possible to pay with other methods, but that would need to happen personally between you and me. 1

Handy Don 15,714 #22 Posted 1 hour ago 52 minutes ago, WHX?? said: I take it all or most banks are in cahoots with Zelle then? Have to look into that. A couple of big banks joined forces to create Zelle in response to PP and other apps/web services gaining such penetration to where they were holding balances and, to many people, that became a form of banking. The banks wanted the transactions to be bank to bank, secure, and not via an outside app with minimal regulatory oversight. 1
