ebinmaine 77,091 #51 Posted February 5 Well here is an interesting development! This truck I want to build of my father's.... Turns out the guy that used to own that company is a classmate of my mother. She called him and he is going to try to hunt up some pictures. Niiiiice.

I'm trying to figure out the proper position of the rear axles compared to the rear bumper.
sscotsman 200 #53 Posted February 6 I was in to HO scale trains when I was a teenager in the 80's, then dropped out of the hobby for all of my 20's, then got in to G scale trains about 25 years ago. c-series don 11,255 #54 Posted February 6 I don’t have any pictures @ebinmaine but I can certainly take some! Maybe over the weekend text me to remind me.
c-series don 11,255 #55 Posted February 7 Well Eric, at 5:15 this morning we got dispatched to a car accident. Car into a pole wires down.No doubt because it’s snowing, probably someone going to fast. Anyway while I was waiting for other guys to get to the firehouse I happened to remember I told you I’d take pictures of the rear of the trailer. So here you go, hope this helps?! 1 1

ebinmaine 77,091 #57 Posted February 7 Did a little more on the tanker this morning. I have a "parts" fuel tanker of a different shape and brand that'll donate its top catwalk. It's a good 4 inches shorter than the total tanker length but it actually looks about right given the age and set up of the original copied subject back in the 1950s. Here I'm using a Sharpie marker to accent the places needing sanding. Neat trick I've seen in several YT channels. Mark the highs/lows/mold creases etc. Sand off the black. Wash, check, repeat until headed towards satisfaction. At that point you can either prime and paint or prime layers of opposing colors to sand more and show the areas needing more attention. Also note that the back of the tank has a large rectangular hole. That would be for a "peddle" truck. There are doors that house the hoses and pump. I won't be using any of that. The back of this particular kit doesn't fit worth a so I've decided to trace the rear section and make my own tank end.

ebinmaine 77,091 #59 Posted February 7 Working on getting my modeling desk set up. I got the lighter gray cutting bed/ work surface today. That's 36" wide x 24" deep. There'll be another set of two narrow metal shelves on top of the white pvc shelf. Then another pvc shelf above those. Basically doubling what's on top of the desk surface now. I also have several more organizing tools coming. Paint rack. Parts racks. Cubby hole shelves for small & medium tools. Possibly also a divider tray. The kit on the lower left will be relocated, and the Dremel tool set currently at top right will be on the desk surface off to the side somewhere.

Scale model companies - like many other industries - will try different marketing strategies to stay profitable. One of them is a "re-release". The kits you see above are the originals from 1979 when Monogram released the new body for 1980 & 81. Kit 2254 Camaro Z/28. This particular MOLD has been re-released several times as different box kits. Here's a link that shows a timeline: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/monogram-2254-camaro-z-28--1282745 If you click that link you'll see all the known kits that have used the body mold. The least expensive way I can see is the early 2000s Testor's reissue. Those can be had for $20 or so plus freight.

ebinmaine 77,091 #66 Posted Thursday at 12:41 AM The lats 3 evenings I've been adding & organizing. Got the top layer on. I've since changed locations of several things. Organizing tools and supplies. Here's a 1/28 metal Peterbilt 378 I've been doing. These are part styrene & part die-cast. Some screws & some glued. Nothing fancy here except some paint changes.

Hey @ebinmaineThere's an organization in Alna with a few trains, cars, and a few miles of track. They always have something going on there. It's the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway Museum. https://wwfry.org/ Back in the day, it went through the village I live in. Some of the buildings are still there.

ebinmaine 77,091 #71 Posted 11 hours ago More experimentation and organizing tools and supplies. This metal Pete is getting more parts added. Cheap kit with some challenges... I like the look of the metal bodies but greatly prefer working with/on styrene. I'm not trying for any super details on this one but I'd like to have certain things right. Engine color for instance. None of the normal model paints match the needed tone. Stopped at the local hardware store the other day and found actual Catarpiller Yellow. Nice. This is after one of four or five very light coats. 1
8ntruck 8,580 #72 Posted 8 hours ago (edited) I initially was going to do a 'need it, need it, built it, got, it' on your picture of future projects, but, they are all in the 'need it' catagory. Closest thing I've built in that selection was a stick & tissue peanut scale PT17 a couple decades ago. I do like the 'silent Sam' Indy cars. Those cars are from an era that seemed to encourage interesting and sometimes unique engineering and design at Indy - unlike the current rules that force the cars towards a single solution.
