JCM 10,513 #1 Posted 12 hours ago Looking to stock up on fuel filters for Kohler Magnums 12-20 HP & Onan 20 HP. I prefer a smaller filter which seem to be harder to come by than the larger ones. If the tank has crud in it I'll use the bigger ones. Onans get a bigger one too. Always something in clear. Retired Wrencher 6,281 #7 Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Jim as rule I have been buying the Briggs & Stratton 150 Micron mini filters. There small and easy to fit any where. The media in them has been known to fall apart and ending up in your restored fuel pumps and carbs. I've been using Stens for years and been ok. When those are gone we're switching to Briggs filters. Burn the NON ethanol like you have been. On a tractor you only use occasionally you could definitely leave the filter several years. On a regular use mower, at least annually. sqrlgtr 1,830 #11 Posted 2 hours ago (edited) I have went to these after a complete fuel system cleaning (carb, tank, new lines and rebuilt/cleaned fuel pump). 70 micron filtration. I like that they are transparent, no media to break down and like the looks of them also, but that's just personal preference. peter lena 9,648 #12 Posted 25 minutes ago @JCM also prefer the clear fuel filters , have 2 on each tractor , also on generator , snowblower , one at tank outflow ,another close to carb , years back now , experimented with , fresh hoses , system clean out ,and sta bil in all my fuel , guess what ? never had any more debris in any filter or carb bowls , as stated , love a REPEDITIVE PROBLEM ? its always there , thats your leader to the cure . have also suggested , replacing the frame length fuel line , to a 5/16 " steel brake line ? eliminate all that , possible hose break down , amazed at , not trying anything different , if you paint it red / black it disappears. add an ounce or two , of stabil , and no rubber break down at all , remember I replaced all old hoses , no fuel issues at all . imagine no fuel hose , debris / related , super lubed , hydraulic oil in choke and throttle cables , with spring pull assist , working for years , kinda like mule drive bearings , snowing now , hope my plow blade isn't frozen with rust , or snow slide off issue , clean filters , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Hours on the clock? Might be different between metal and plastic tanks. Dan and I were tooling around at show on Betty and she just quit. Fuel pump? Nope filter was just plugged solid. Never saw one that bad so maybe just change at every show. Betty goes to every show and gets used a lot by the gals. Somebodies gotta go get ice or the flea market she gets hopped on.
