Need Help On Vintage Snow Thrower

Recommended Posts

FarmallFarmer09

I recently purchased my first wheel horse with a number of new attachments, And included in that bundle was a Wheel Horse snow blower. I would love to use it, But as it seems, Its missing a few key components to use it. Its missing the 2 side caster wheels, Along with the lift rod. does anyone know where i could potentially pick up either of these things?

@FarmallFarmer09, those idler belt pulleys are known for  lubrication   failure , tiny bearings and unknown  lubricant  , any question  to roughness  or noise , replace them , also get some specific  , chain and cable  lube for the  auger drive , napa has MACS  CHAIN / CABLE LUBE , use it before and after  usage . also like PAM  cooking spray on the chute base area  , for easier  movement , done a couple of those , they really respond  to  MOVEMENT DETAILING .  those single stage blowers are  not that bad , its the 2 stage blowers that are killers , would also emphasize lubricating  any / every  movement point  . blowers I sold , were frozen with rust  when I got them , turned by hand when sold . also  soore my attachments  with a lubrication spray down , that will darken the paint  and give it  a perfect patina base , with a clean lightly oiled cloth. pete

You need the lift rod in order to lift it. Do you have the Flag connector which is a separate part from the lift rod?

Yes they're heavy but not that bad if it's connected to the correct hole on the bell crank lever. Lots of people connect them to the wrong hole so that makes the mechanical advantage less than what it should be. Then complain the thing is too heavy to lift. Assist springs can also be added to lighten the load if necessary.

The lift rod (usually made of ¾” ID pipe) with a “flag” fixture links the mid-tractor rock shaft with the blower body. The rod pushes the bottom edge of the blower forward causing it to pivot upward. Normal lift distance (when properly adjusted) is around 3”. Do you have the model # of the blower?

Edit: @wallfish has quicker fingers!

You could start by calling vendors in our classified vendors list, starting with A-to-Z and K&B Horse Parts and placing a “Wanted” ad in the classifieds.

Skid shoes can be made from a piece of angle steel to be used in place of the steel wheels. WH changed to skid shoes on the blowers too

The wheels would be harder on the driveway than skid shoes would be. :twocents-02cents:

Those wheels are only about 1/2" wide and skid hard when turning. Skid shoes will always slide right over the top and don't dig in.

off set casters far enough so they can spin around.

You can measure the pin on the blower to get the ID of the wheels

The shaft pin diameter is 1/2". And as @wallfish stated, those cast iron wheels DO scoot sideways as you turn. They are held on with a shallow groove snap ring; I had one wheel fly off 2 years ago. No more snap rings - cross drilled the shaft for a cotter pin & flat washer...

      Hello!

I am looking for any and all snowthrowers that will work on my GT2500. I am trying to find one off FB marketplace but no one ever really posts the model number. Usually just the length. So I look for 42'' throwers but I don't know what will fit. A local seller has this for sale:

He says its 42 but unaware the model, the Wheelhorse logo looks to be from the late 60's/early 70's? It looks like the below thrower:

My question is if that thrower year/model will fit the GT2500. It looks pretty dang simple but I'm not sure. Someone mentioned something about the right size "Quick-hitch" in another post.

Lets make a deal. The whole collection for $3000 or one tractor and half the items listed below for $1500.
I am moving to town so am willing to do a partial trade for a wheelhorse more approproiate for a suburban lot- lawn ranger, surburban models, bcs walking tractor, other?
I could possibly deliver or meet half-way or ship.

Both tractors run great and are in good working order. Second owner of both machines. I work with these machines everyday so they are not perfect but are, in my opinion, in excellent shape.
      42in high-shoot snow blower
      42 in rear discharge deck
      Snow blade
Front mount deck hanger with 42in side discharge deck
      30in lawn seeder
Brinly single bottom plow with cleavis or sleeve hitch
      50in grader blade
      Extra transmission
      36in rear tiller - leaks a little
Full set of tire chains for each tractor
      Various body pieces
7.5 cubic ft pull behind cart - may need tires
      Extra set of rims
All required belts, pullys, brackets, manuals, too much to list.

Hello, I recently purchased a single stage snowblower attachment for my C-121.  Currently going through my first storm with it.   Made some passes down the driveway and blower was blowing a bit of snow backwards under the tractor.   Snow is very fine and light snow.   Wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has suggestions on remidies.
