tmix61 90 #1 Posted October 9 Looking to buy a c175 automatic was wondering where the tow valve is so I can push it I know it doesn't run will I need a special tool to open the valve not sure where it is?
953 nut 62,119 #2 Posted October 9 Many C-175s had the Eaton 1100 which has no tow valve, just move the direction control lever to forward. 1
tmix61 90 #3 Posted October 9 I thought all automatic had a tow valve

If you can get pics under the right side rear fender we can tell you which is which. Or- with the brake released (usually just push and release the brake pedal all the way) it will roll easily by hand if it is an Eaton. If not, it's likely a Sundstrand. DO NOT FORCE IT EITHER WAY.
tmix61 90 #5 Posted October 9 (edited) The tractor is for sale 75 miles from home just thought I would ask if anybody knew. Now I'm scared to go look at it. I hate to wreck something by pulling it onto my trailer. I'm sure this picture doesn't help much but this is all I have to go by Edited October 9 by tmix61 Picture
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,720 #6 Posted October 9 If you get a chance at the tractor model number the transmission is in it. 01-17KS01 will have the Sundstrand hydro. 01-17KE01 will have the Eaton hydro. 17 = hp K = Kohler
tmix61 90 #7 Posted October 9 Where would the tow valve be on a sandstrand hydro?
Lee1977 7,375 #8 Posted October 9 Most C-175 have Eaton's .
Ed Kennell 43,080 #9 Posted October 9 The 1980 C-175 had the Sundstrand 90-1173. The others had the Eaton 1100 that is safe to push
Ed Kennell 43,080 #10 Posted October 9 I believe the 90-1173s tow valve was a 7/16 hex head bolt on the left rear of the transmission. Paul @pfrederi may know for sure.
ri702bill 10,019 #11 Posted October 9 Or... lift the Rear with a floor jack to get it on the trailer...
tmix61 90 #12 Posted October 9 It's a lawn mower for sale 75 miles from home so I'm sure it's in a storage shed out in a yard somewhere from the looks of the picture so using a floor jack but not be the way to go how can I tell if it's a sundstrand or a Eaton by looking at it? kpinnc 15,678 #13 Posted October 9 (edited) Wooden dollies at Harbor Freight are $12 each, and about the right size for the rear wheels. If you don't buy it, just return them. So long as you have a hard surface to roll to the trailer you'll be fine if it is by chance a Sundstrand. Edited October 9 by kpinnc
c-series don 10,549 #14 Posted October 10 You can easily tell by the filter location. Eaton is on the End. Sunstrand is on the Side. That’s just an easy way to remember.
tmix61 90 #15 Posted October 10 You wouldn't happen to have a picture of that would you?
Lee1977 7,375 #16 Posted October 10 It's not a C-175, but this is the location of the trans. filter on an Eaton. 1
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,720 #17 Posted October 10 Would item # 46 be the tow valve on the Sundstrand? Bottom of the page https://www.partstree.com/models/01-17ks02-c-175-toro-garden-tractor-1980/automatic-transmission-1/
c-series don 10,549 #18 Posted October 10 @gwest_ca That’s it! It takes a 5/16” wrench, not a 7/16” like @Ed Kennell said. C’mon Ed get it together, you’re off by an 1/8” get it together. You should know better 😜😜

953 nut 62,119 #20 Posted October 10 If it is a Sundstrand it would be a 90-1173 as pictured below. The push valve is circled for you. Now go buy it and remember, 3

If it's tight, work it a little at a time, back and forth. I just ran into this on a C-141. But with a little perseverance, I got it freed up. 1
